  1. Past hour
  2. Is there anyone here that was in or around La Plata, MD 24 years ago today?
  3. Looks like the operational model versions are trying to keep the circulation more progressive through this weekend. Prior thinking was -NAO type back-logs would risk stalling rhea wheels in the region or close enough to shut down a 1/2 month's worth of outdoor life. If we end up with lows getting N of us though, event if it's BN ... west wind is at least interludes where it's better.
  4. Picked up a trace this morning here, some parts of the area wet roads briefly near the airport and other roads were just dry.
  5. After 6+" of rain this month, this looks good. Nice n mellow with seasonable temps in town. A couple cooler days, but not too bad.
  6. We pulled off 1.5 inches from that overnight round of rain. Had quite a few power outages from that first wave. As Jeff noted, house rattling thunder, that had my dogs in quite a stir.
  7. It will be interesting to see if the coming El Niño can shift us out of this dry pattern which began in September 2024.
  8. could be wrong, but IMO there'll be more of these easterly EMLs than usual this summer, given the incredible drought out west.
  9. April 28 1994: Heavy snow falls over parts of Minnesota with 7.5 inches at Tower and 4.5 inches in the Twin Cities. 1966: A heavy snowstorm leaves 10 inches of snow on the ground across a wide chunk of northern Minnesota. For Tuesday, April 28, 2026 1921 - A severe hailstorm in Anson County, NC, produced hail the size of baseballs. Gardens, grain fields and trees were destroyed. Pine trees in the storm's path had to be cut for lumber because of the hail damage. (The Weather Channel) 1928 - A coastal storm produced tremendous late season snows in the Central Appalachians, including 35 inches at Bayard WV, 31 inches at Somerset PA, and 30 inches at Grantsville MD. High winds accompanying the heavy wet snow uprooted trees and unroofed a number of homes. The storm caused great damage to fruit trees and wild life. (David Ludlum) (The Weather Channel) 1987 - Twenty cities in the western and central U.S. reported record high temperatures for the date. Highs of 95 degrees at Houston TX, 95 degrees at Lake Charles LA, and 94 degrees at Port Arthur TX, were April records. (The National Weather Summary) 1988 - Miami, FL, hit 92 degrees, marking a record eight days of 90 degree heat in the month of April. Squalls produced snow in the Washington D.C. area. Belvoir VA reported a temperature reading of 57 degrees at the time the snow began. (Storm Data) (The National Weather Summary) 1989 - Strong northerly winds and heavy snow ushered cold air into the north central U.S. Snowfall totals in Montana ranged up to 20 inches at Miles City. Thunderstorms produced severe weather from eastern Texas to the Southern Appalachians and the southern Ohio Valley. Hail four and a half inches in diameter was reported at Keller TX and White Settlement TX. (Storm Data) (The National Weather Summary) 1990 - Thunderstorms produced severe weather in the southeastern U.S. during the day. Severe thunderstorms spawned four tornadoes, including one which injured four persons at Inman SC. There were also more than one hundred reports of large hail and damaging winds, with better than half of those reports in Georgia. Strong thunderstorm winds injured four people at Sadler's Creek SC. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data) Twenty-nine cities in the northeastern U.S. reported record high temperatures for the date as readings soared into the 80s and lower 90s. Highs of 88 degrees at Binghamton NY, 94 degrees at Buffalo NY, 89 degrees at Erie PA, 90 degrees at Newark NJ, 93 degrees at Rochester NY and 92 degrees at Syracuse NY, were records for the month of April. (The National Weather Summary)
  10. Today
  11. Drought breeds more drought. Yeah we had the somewhat elevated storm issue with the thunder. Sound waves love to bend down when the boundary layer is cooler. So the bottom line is that we got crappy sleep for a poor trade off with not enough rain. We have another chance tonight. Probably come with booms and bangs again. Might come with some straight wind. I'm not at all worried about rotation in East Tenn. However, I will have some sabre rattling in the Severe Thread for West in about an hour.
  12. No snow at 6300 feet, but a good soaking rain to hopefully jump start the rest of the lawn.
  13. 1.75" of rain yesterday. What a soaker. Grass is greening up. Some warmer temps, and the trees will bud out. 6.38" for the month from the CoCoRahs site just NE of town. Very wet.
  14. Mine was way overdue but I also haven't been there in 12 months to mow and I had to use the second highest blade level on the push mower just to keep it from shutting off. It's going to need another touchup the next sunny day and from there it'll be regular maintenance.
  15. 72/30 yesterday, back down to 30 this morning and cloudless. The best of mid-spring.
  16. Get ready 2 not torch in May per latest EW. No denying that! Next 4 weeks:
  17. Definitely getting some overperformers which is great. Lets keep the rain train going into May.
  18. Yeah that storm that rolled through about 5:30 meant business.
  19. Looks like North Georgia, Upstate SC, and in middle NC are getting some nice rain this morning.
  20. What a glorious morning! Lots of lightening and thunder and a round of heavy rain around 5 o'clock this morning. Certainly the rain over performed and it was surely needed!
