True - todays are taking 5 minutes to pop up and produce heavy rains another fast popper near south Old Bridge

good idea the atmosphere is still primed and ready had a  CTG lightning strike at the western edge of the precip with the sun out temp dropped from 90 to76

Yes at around 1650 ft elevation near Lake Harmony.  When I set up my Ambient WS-2000 and Ecowitt HP2584 weather stations I had to find the exact lat long and elevation and it came up with 1531 ft but I think that's wrong because it underdoes my Barometric pressure. Aside from a widely scattered shower or thundershower, this evening and tonight will be variably cloudy and warm.

Above normal temperatures will persist through the remainder of the weekend until near the middle of next week. Highs will generally top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s in the warmest spots. 

A somewhat cooler air mass will arrive near mid-week. Afterward, readings will be mainly in the lower to middle 80s for Wednesday and Thursay.

A push of even cooler air is possible by the close of the week. As a result, Friday through Sunday could see highs mainly in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +4.1°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.3°C for the week centered around July 30. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.53°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +2.02°C. The ongoing strong El Niño, which has reached super El Niño threshold, will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -16.51 today. 

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +0.288 today. 

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 51% probability that New York City will have a warmer than normal August (1991-2020 normal). August will likely finish with a mean temperature near 76.2° (0.1° above normal). 

Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 0.9° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.

As a vegetable gardener, it's always frustrating to me when we don't get enough rain during the spring and summer. You can water all you want and that does keep the plants going, but it's not the same as rain water. I always notice in the spring that the plants in the vegetable garden have a big growth spurt after a good rainfall. That doesn't happen from just watering with the hose during dry periods.

As I mentioned, I lost some of the first tomatoes to sunscald in early July due to the combination of extreme heat and extremely dry conditions. Thankfully things turned around over the last month with plenty of rainfall. The vegetable garden is doing great now. Obviously you and I will never agree on this subject, lol. 

It's not like I'm against all rain just excessive anomalous flooding all day rains. Yesterday was ideal here. It was sunny 90 percent of the day. Clouds moved in around 2 pm and it rained hard for 30 minutes and the sun was back out by 3 pm. 0.7 inches of rain. This is what I like to see and quite normal for summertime not all day cloudy and gloomy with 2 and 3 inches of rain. That was fun in 2011 because it was a novelty but it gets old pretty quickly. The amount of rain we got yesterday was perfect and so was the sunshine the rest of the day the only thing that could have made yesterday better would have been a rainbow after the rain ended.

If we had this kind of monsoon pattern every summer the Yankees and Mets would both need to have domes over their stadiums like the teams in Florida do and something I wished for last night with the game which started after 9 pm and ended after midnight omg.

The period of first 90 degree high to last 90 degree high in 1991 and 2010 might be unsurpassed. Back then we used to go straight from Winter into Summer.

1896 is also notable for having the first extended heatwave on record a 10 day heatwave in which 1500 people died.
