This is easily top 2 most prolific lightning producing storms I’ve seen in my decade living in LI, possibly number 1. Frequent CTG’s in all directions and surround sound thunder. This was so random.

Wow, INSANE storm. The sound of hail pounding against the house was something else. Some of the hail was dime sized. I ran outside to get some to put in the freezer. We got 1 inch of rain in a very short period of time. A bunch of very close lightning strikes. 60 to 70 mph wind gusts which I'm sure caused quite a bit of damage. When I was outside I could hear lots of sirens all around. 

We had a couple power hits here but both times the power came back on very quickly. Thankful to have power. My internet was out for awhile which is why it took me this long to respond to you. Even now it's very slow. I'm glad to hear that you have power. That was one heck of a storm.

Good storm. Lotsa boomers, good light show, a quick inch of rain without much wind. The dog shook herself to sleep under the bed

Kinda skipped around my West shore station with 0.18". More intense mid island with 0.50" rain and booming thunder. High of 95° today.

One if the crazier storms of recent memory.  Flooding and trees diwn across several of our rail lines. One train struck tree on pascack Valley line and enormous one came down in millburn. 

 

Had wonderful clouds coming across shark inlet earlier.

Frequent nearby CTGs with no rain falling made for a wild scene here earlier, I don't think I've ever seen that before, I picked up about 0.14" overall with winds gusting in the 35-40 mph range at peak I'd guess

Yeah I was outside running, and had just enough time to complete the run. It got bad out there about 5 minutes after I got back to the house. When I went out to run I figured we'd get hit closer to 6pm, but as you said a new line formed almost on top of us while the line that was going to hit us later fell apart. Man the summer storms in our area are becoming more and more intense.

Got exactly 1" of rain out of today's storm.

0.04" from seabreeze front around 2pm and 0.19"  with thunderstorms  715pm~9pm.  Marginal wind gusts.

LI severe storms come from the north in almost all cases, the other ones being stray storms on the seabreeze boundary that can sometimes blow up around Mineola/Westbury. Every now and again severe can reach western Nassau if conditions are right but for Suffolk it’s game over. Long Beach/Rockaway has been hit a couple times recently by bowing out storms coming east from NJ but they die once they reach Jones Beach.

A notable exception was the Labor Day (09/07/98) squall line. That thing was a beast all the way from NJ through eastern Suffolk.

Wild afternoon in Nanuet.

 

Started off as a little blip on the radar and quickly got organized and went straight nuclear. Had two major gust of wind, right at the beginning of the storm and then during a secondary blow up of storms. Had marble/dime sized hail. It was intense for a few minutes. Some of the craziest Lightning I can remember. Been living up here 4 years and that’s the first time losing powet I can remember. Luckily it was only out for an hour and change.
