I will go with colder than 94-95, but warmer than 09-10, for this upcoming winter. Depends on the PDO, though. If it stays deeply negative, it will end up closer to 94-95, but if it can go towards neutral, then it will end up closer to 09-10.

A cooler regime is in place and will remain in place through the remainder of July. Highs will generally reach the lower 80s through much or all of the remainder of July. The warmest spots could reach the middle 80s on occasion.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +3.6°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.1°C for the week centered around July 15. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.20°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +1.82°C. The ongoing strong El Niño will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -12.70 yesterday. 

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +0.537 today. 

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 73% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal July (1991-2020 normal). July will likely finish with a mean temperature near 76.7° (0.8° below normal). 

Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 0.2° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.

Not really. 2009 was cold throughout, with the exception of one week in August. 2015 was warm from July-September. 2023 was cold in June, but very warm in July and September.

This California Coast weather is much nicer than the top 5 warmest June 1st through July 15th that much of the Northeast just experienced. This was a first for such a strong El Niño.

All our other developing super El Niños were much cooler. So a continuation of the very warm 2020s summer -PDO/+AMO atmospheric pattern even with such a strong El Niño. 

This was also the first time the area had 104° to 106° heat during such a strong developing El Niño at any point in the summer. 

Most other years with such high maximum temperatures were La Ninas.

That extreme heat was brutal, thank goodness we had so many near or even below normal days between those heat waves. I think it was the first time I had 2 consecutive above 100 degree days. After all that heat most places should end up with a near normal temperature in July, would not have expected that.
