My depth is an average of a huge area, always 10 readings. And even then I don't feel fully confident. I straight up tossed the stake as a data point after the blizzard. I used to think our locations were simpatico on being the relative BN screw-holes. Basically from you up the coast to PWM. I'm curious how you stand relative to your climo over the same stretch?

VivaManchVegas
The woods are empty here. My back yard is usually the last to melt. 4 to 6" on the ground. Sump pump never came on. Pretty sure that is because of the dry fall. Windy and 40F.
HIPPYVALLEY
It’s gonna suck if last week’s temperatures are the highest we see until mid May. Even though it’s not that cold, today feels brutal with the wind and temperatures.

I've occasionally done the 10 readings for individual storms but doing it for pack depth in a place like Maine with snow atop snow would resemble the physicist's uncertainty principle - all that tromping thru the snow affecting the depth. I place the stake at the same spot in our garden plot and stay away from it, to avoid that affecting. I suppose if one could separate the 10 spots by 50+ feet and avoid old tracks during the next measurement . . . Too complicated for me. Pack grew to 13" this morning, back to 11 now. weatherwiz
Monday doesn't seem overly impressive for winds...nothing out of the ordinary for these setups. Best bet would be getting a solid convective line to hold but looks like it falls apart quickly. 3km though does suggest there could be some embedded strong convection though. Definitely work and you have to be very strategic. To be clear, unless it's a wind blown storm, I only take 10 measurements at 12z daily, not every 6-hr new-snow ob. I also have one of those fancy 40" sticks with a handle, plus an 8' wingspan, so I can space far from my feet. Helps great deal.
