I ain’t picking and choosing runs here either. Pretty much all major guidance has had some variation of this over the last day or two and you can see the signal faintly on the ensembles…

I remember following that entire cold outbreak on TWC back then.  It was Embarrass, MN that hit -64. The NWS didn’t recognize that officially though. Tower hit -60 for the official record.

Well at least we get mood flakes for watching football tomorrow.  I would like a few inches to cover the mess that has been left behind that last week (stupid oak leaves that have no idea to fall two months ago, neighbors dog crap, that smooth ice patch on a partially cleared path that will help an orthro surgeon retire)but it looks like I might be asking for too much.

Man never seen it like this in here, and rightfully so. I’m watching stranger things finally and this week of weather watching reminds me of season 4 with Hop in Russia. Just keep on getting tortured and beaten by Mother Nature, then we get some hope, then it’s stripped from us and we get beat up even more.  When will it end?

28-30th is lit up on GEFS, EPS has it too .. Also GEFS has a large overrunning signal still for 23-26th, EPS toned down a bit and supressed from earlier runs

yeah, just looking at these spatial orientations now...  28th/29th is a quasar 

anything prior to the 27th is probably kind of buckshot and not very clear at this range...  They're not tied to any coherent larger mass field reshuffling; if/when they exist they're like "under the radar" and emerge in shorter notice.   Middling in scale, ....get into a resonant overrunning deal, notwithstanding - again, that shows up < 5 days typically in this overall compressed/cold hemisphere

... which, doesn't comment on the stability ... It's 240+ hours and just outside the range where these larger scaled 'scaffolds' become more reliable -

Coming back from N. Maine that day(next Sunday)…would love to be coming home to a nice event on the doorstep.  That’s always a great feeling. Hate missing any good events, even if I’m enjoying the snow somewhere else.

Still looks concerning that W Canada may get wiped out again by the EPO shift though I think its just a brief one but despite the end of ensembles showing a +PNA look again its pretty mild since Canada gets torched the last few days of the month by that transitional period.  Could be 2/5 or 2/7 before we see things be cold enough and I am just not sure how much longer thereafter we can hold this pattern.  Its logically going to go Nina February at some stage.  I felt by 2/10 but maybe its later.

I'm not seeing this cut to the West completely at all. I think they'll be a transfer to the coast. With the strong high to the north Arctic air as well pushing down, I just can't see this being rain for the Northeast. Now, whether it's snow or ice that's to be determined
