FlashFreeze
Nice winter day! 22° after a low of 1° and about 3 inches of glacier, mostly snow with a little sleet and a crust of ice. Caught the Sundog in Granville MA.

radarman
Many ponds already frozen over here. Not about to venture on the ice yet but impressive nonetheless. Could be skating by next week in shallower protected areas.

The late leaf drop is interesting. Hopefully the tree is okay. I’d plant one here, but I already have too many other trees…not much room between the fruiting trees, chestnuts, and butternuts/hickories. 10 hours ago, bristolri_wx said: “Your local forecast from the National Weather Service.” This is my favorite wxstar 4000 simulator. Of course that’s with calm conditions.

amarshall
still targeting a mid January full leaf drop. The Oaks laugh at single-digit temperatures. The tops are mostly gone now..

But they aren’t invasive (aggressive) and don’t spread their seed far so a single tree isn’t really hurting the ecosystem much. If I could only plant a couple of trees it would be native ones, but if I had a large enough property and more room for trees than I knew what to do with I’d possibly plant one. They’re fairly useless for wildlife though.

dendrite
Big fire a few homes up from me this morning. Not sure how many “alarms” it was, but I saw a Laconia truck there too. Looks like 2 people and 2 dogs displaced…tough time with the cold and holiday season. Awful.
