The mid to upper 90s made it to NJ along with Brooklyn and Queens away from the sea breeze. You knew that Central Park wasn’t making it to 100° due to the overgrowth covering the sensor. The models and many forecasters don’t take that into account. Most don’t realize how dense the tree and plant growth has been around the NYC ASOS.

Mid to upper 90s?  The highest we have had all year is 93, Chris.  Lack of 100 degrees comes from the fact that our summers have become much rainier.

Clear, crisp and cool morning.  Hint of September in the air.  Morning low here was 56 degrees.  Really nice for the closing days of July.  Just quick shower last evening.  Gusty wind for a few minutes but only .06" rainfall.

Looks like a dry week with pleasant temperatures and humidity coming up!

where do you make these tables?

At XMACIS2. The departures were largely driven by so many top 5 average warm minimum monthly temperatures around the region with the near to record high dew points. So the perception by some was that it wasn’t that hot of a month since there were no 100s and the 90 day count wasn’t as high as some recent years.

71 / 54 and quite lovely out.  A  reprieve from the humidity and heat the next 5 days with dry, near or below normal temps  low / mid 80s and 60s (some 50s) at night.  Tough into the NE with N/NW flow with Ridge re popping in TX/OK similar to late June/early this month.  By Wed (8/3) into Thu (8/4) flow is coming around more S/SW with a return to more humid (not bad bad as recent yet). Warmer 8/4 - 8/6, before next front comes through.

Beyond into the second week the western Atlantic ridge is building west and forcing trough back towards the GL, with more warm / humid flow.  Strong heat remains into the south/ Gulf.  Heights look to come up towards the end of the second week and overall warm to hot at times with more frewuent storms potential.

Enjoy  this marvelous next 5 days.

1965 - The temperature at Portland, OR, reached 107 degrees to equal their all-time record high. (The Weather Channel)

1970: Hurricane Celia was born in the northwest of the Caribbean Sea on this day. The hurricane would be one of the worst ever to hit Texas and would reach Texas late on August 3. The storm reached its peak as it made landfall near Corpus Christi, Texas, as a strong Category 3 hurricane. Hurricane Celia is currently the last major hurricane to make landfall on the middle Texas Coast until Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

The high of 101 degrees at Billings, MT, marked a record seventeen days of 100 degree heat for the year. Thunderstorms produced severe weather in the northeast, with nearly fifty reports of large hail or damaging winds in Pennsylvania and New York State. A tree fell on a car at Erie, PA, injuring four persons. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)

1989 - Morning thunderstorms over central Missouri deluged Columbia with 5.98 inches of rain causing flash flooding. Daytime thunderstorms in Kentucky drenched Paducah with 1.73 inches of rain in less than half an hour. Evening thunderstorms in the north central U.S. produced wind gusts to 78 mph east of Moccasin, MT. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)

100 degrees with 30% humidity feels much better than this mediocre "heat" crap

All the upper 80s days at the local warm spots become low 90s when you factor in the high dew points pushing the heat index into the low 90s for the monthly daily high temperature average. Even JFK gets closer to 90 when you factor in the record high dew points.

Yeah, by a few degrees. Both were at record levels this month over 110°. Not a fun place to spend the summer.
