Tuesday 1/7/20 Disco snow event

Recommended Posts

36/31 in Centreville, VA.  Been RASN for the last 45 minutes (no accums).  It appears the snow is (finally) taking over as I type this.

Dropped to 39 in the last 5 mins. Prob need to be around 36 before all snow takes over. Boundary warmth is legit but really shallow (thank god).

Just from poking around the DOT cameras and Wunderground, it looks like 36/37 is where we are seeing a changeover, but it is 33/34 before it starts to whiten the grass.  No snow on the sides of the roads until you get pretty far west on 66 (Marshall/Markham).

SW of us had the benefit of great timing with precip early in the AM. We're dealing with exactly what we were thinking yesterday... Boundary layer will be annoying...

Just measured 3" in northern Albemarle county! Radar says freezing rain and sleet, but it's been all snow here.

Herdon area has dropped 2-4 degrees in the last 30 mins once the rates picked up. Now mid 30's after being in the low 40s earlier.

I have to drive to Reston at 3 hopefully its snowing there by then

I left Reston about 30 min ago and it was ~50/50 snow/rain then so should be fine.  Car thermometer dropped from 46 to 36 driving from Reston to Ashburn.  Flake size and rates are trying to increase in Ashburn, but everything still just wet.

Euro says DC area gets very heavy rates from 2-4pm.

Inverted trough depiction still there south to north across central MD.  Pretty good spot for Chill north to get some bonus.
