Considering how November 1987 and 1989 went and the winters that came after that. There are zero indications that this will be anything like 87 or 89. Also the last several Novembers were colder than normal and we've had great winters. The Oct/Nov combo thus far along with the well AN Precip and November snow event are all screaming that this will be a very snowy winter.

My friend who lives in Charlestown got 2” and just west of the city saw 6” Logan is surrounded by water east of downtown Boston. That measurement is believable, assuming it's not a typo. I noted a trace on the beach vs an inch and a half on the ground a quarter mile inland on the north shore of LI during the first part of the snowfall. "Load of crap" is a tad harsh. So we have that going for us, which is nice. Yes and just as I read that I heard a report in the media about this being forecast to be the coldest winter in the area in the last 50 years lol- I wonder who made that forecast? Ed I noticed in early season events the south shore does better than the north shore does. More examples of this are October 2011 and November 2012 JFK vs LGA. Only a trace here, but snow on the ground 3 miles south of here. 62 degree water in the Sound at that time wasn't conducive to snowfall close to the shore. It was the same last week, but only along the immediate beach. Sound temps then were about 54, but the air was considerably colder than in October 2011. I doubt the beach front areas on either side of the bays on the south shore fare much better early in the season, although a NE wind being more immediately off of land might help a little in some very marginal events. Yes, and I believe JFK got 1.5" in the October 2011 event while LGA only got a trace. In the November 2012 event, JFK had about 4.5" while LGA had just 1.5" and remembering posts from back then it was snowing but not sticking to anything. Snow wise I remember a bunch of very small clippers and one missed big event that rained when it supposed to snow lol. Matched the previous February, except then we got virga instead of snow. In both cases we were supposed to get 8-12 inches.

Meanwhile it is 38 here at 6am. Should be 20 this same time tomorrow. Looks like all the wet periods the next 15 days have AN temps. and rain for us. So the beautiful cold goes to waste. It’s nearly the same setup as Tuesday morning last week when the ridge axis came overhead and JFK dropped to 31 with a MOS forecast lows of 39 and 40. I wouldn’t be surprised if some parts of LI got close to 5. ...ideal radiational cooling conditions for thurs. nite/friday morning..according to NWS latest forecast discussion..they have a low of 5* for KFOK friday morning..i'm thinking i should achieve a single digit low also..
