T. August
Just measured .6". Radar looks good up this way. I believe graupel is falling at the moment.

StudentOfClimatology
We're both in North/Northwestern Arlington. Haven't seen dendrites all night for more then a few minutes. Right now it's a lull and I guess there is some graupel infused with the very light precipitation, but I can't say I can tell. Haven't seen any graupel and I'm like 5 miles from you at most. Though it's lightened up for now.
Rhode Islander in Balto
Starting to pick up in Parkville (NE Baltimore)....strangely rimmed/shaped flakes falling, some that almost look like tiny pieces of popcorn. They are making almost a sleet-like ping sound on the metal roof of my back porch. Just hit the 1 inch mark! 13.5/
hosj III
Haven't seen any graupel and I'm like 5 miles from you at most. Lots of graupel here. Best rates were .75" 9-10 PM. Sitting at 3" now.
NorthArlington101
Haven't seen any graupel and I'm like 5 miles from you at most. Huh, really can't explain it then. Others in Arlington are reporting it too, so I'm gonna stick to my obs. Enjoy your dendrites.
Fozz
What are you guys seeing for the Newark DE area. I am a freshman and I am thinking about majoring in Meteorology. Started a course this semester but don't know much.. I was wondering what you guys/gals think If you're in Newark, DE then you might want to head to the Philly forum... I think that one covers your region.
MacintoshPro
Ughh. We had 10 minutes of graupel and now back to sparse pixie dust with intermittent graupel. Nothing looks very good on the radar for DC, but that could change quickly. I really hope we don't have that graupel crap and we have dendrites. mattie g
Haven't seen any graupel and I'm like 5 miles from you at most. Though it's lightened up for now. I noticed it in Burke earlier, as did gymengineer. Seemed really strange to me, but there it was.

Nothing looks very good on the radar for DC, but that could change quickly. I really hope we don't have that graupel crap and we have dendrites. We'll get better rates and dendrites. Mostly pixie dust here now too (ETA: some better flakes mixing in).
MacintoshPro
I might just go to sleep for a couple hours and wake up at 2 AM- hopefully to a scene of bright greens and lots of dendrites... we'll see.

StudentOfClimatology
Walking out in it now, looks like a few rimed snowflakes in a mix of singulars and small flakes. If there was graupel, I missed it.
Swiscaster
11:15pm measurement: 3.0". So, 0.4" in the past 2+ hours. Not great. Snow is starting back up after a lull though.

kurtstack
I noticed it in Burke earlier, as did gymengineer. Seemed really strange to me, but there it was. I also had the graupel. It actually compacted my 3.25" to roughly 2.9".
StudentOfClimatology
Odd... I didn't notice any either Yeah, same. I think there's a distinction between rimed snow and graupel. The stuff falling now is so fluffy I can't hear it.
Joshfsu123
3.3 inches down in SE DC (as of 11pm) --- it is snowing again (has been for past 15 minutes). Flake size is a little larger than earlier.
Ian
I saw some 'grainier flakes' in the lull when out. Maybe stuff forming low?

Demeter
I noticed it in Burke earlier, as did gymengineer. Seemed really strange to me, but there it was. I also hit a patch of it driving north on 95 from Richmond to Spotsy around 730pm, only lasted a few minutes but they were pinging on my windshield. I chalked it up to upper level dynamics.
