    I generally agree. I suspect by fall it will be neutral to maybe slightly negative, ending slightly positive by the end of winter.

    Maybe I’ll be wrong and if I am then so be it….I’ve been wrong before but I just can’t imagine the PDO staying negative this fall in the face of an extremely well coupled, historic super El Niño. My call is that the PDO flips to at least weakly positive by the end of November. If I’m wrong, oh well….

    We ended up not going. Mr. J had woken up early in the morning to a headache that made him nauseous. I suspect the pressure change as at 2 am it started to drop. Went from 1020 down to 1015 by the afternoon. But did joke with him about the Palomarita he had on the boardwalk the day before. We ended up going to a restaurant we wanted to try. Went up to Milton to Po’ Boy and it did not disappoint. Who knew you could get that kind of Creole food in DE!

    It will be really interesting see how the Aleutian low develops with the rare July displacement into Alaska for such a strong El Niño. This is the first developing super El Niño with such a low July PNA since 1972. While the sample size is very small, that event featured one of the most unusual winter Aleutian low patterns for such a strong El Niño up to that time. Significantly colder era back then and this El Niño is much more intense. July PNA during developing super El Niños 2023.. +1.15 2015…+0.76 1997….+0.56 1982…+0.97 1972….-0.76

    Sorry for the whiney post. It wasn’t a good day yesterday. As far as the other day, it was SOMEthing but still short and unremarkable. Maybe I expect too much..

    So we had a causality of the electrical storm last Tuesday. The younger Ms. J had been out doing a pet sitting job and drove home in the storm. She opened the garage door and put her car in. She went to put it down and it would not go down. Found out she had to hold the garage button down to force it down. Also the interior light would not turn off. So I told her to call the guy who installed it. He came out and the sensor eyes had gotten zapped so replaced them. But as for the light not turning off the circuit board in the unit got fried. As the garage door opener was installed when we moved in it is 16 yrs old. He found the circuit board from another guy as the rest of the unit has been working fine in hopes that it is all that is needed. We have a whole house surge protector on our panel but it just must have happened are the exact time that the door was asked to be opened.

    I forgot a third reason he likely isn't employed in his field of study, and it's probably the most significant one: Profound dishonesty. Ethics still matters in many professions. That is a decade after the IPCC was established. At that time, scientific understanding of contemporary climate change and the predominant role of human activities were far better understood. If one wants to find the IPCC's original purpose, one has to go back to the founding documents. That was UNGA Res. 43-53. Its original mission was not limited to human-induced climate change. It covered climate change in its entirety.

    White Plains recorded its fourth consecutive low in the 50s. The last time that happened in July was during 2009. At that time, an El Niño was developing. Strong El Niño conditions are already present this year.

    CSU MLP guidance favors south of the area for Tuesday. CIPS is not enthused really. NCAR which normally is overly bullish is not terrible but given its normal...is under enthused as well.

    DCA has had one above average precip month since June 2025. That was due to the sleet storm in January. July to date is -0.32" so maybe we can get lucky over these last few days.
