The max on the mesonet was 97 and IAD/BWI were also in the 97 range.  I think we generally were not quite there yet with the overall environment and the DPs didn’t help.  Feels like tomorrow and Friday are likely triple digits though.

I was worried we wouldn't have maxed temps today and struggled in the lows 90s. As with any decent event, once you start slinging warnings and changing plans, etc. you need the event to pan out or you'll look foolish. So let's just go for broke and make this one to remember.

I am getting my daily weather records for today, July 1 2026.

I see that Dale City hit 99 degrees. You also have dewpoints at 76 degrees. These are conditions highly representative of where I live!!!!!

You are under an EXTREME HEAT WARNING for heat index values up to 112 degrees.

Again, these are conditions highly representative of places like AUSTIN, TEXAS.

Be extremely careful, especially if you are going to the UFC 250. It's going to become extremely hot. Stay out of the sun. GET INTO AIR CONDITIONING!!!!!!! Drink lots of water! Wear light colored, loose fitting clothes out there! 112 heat indices ARE NO FRACKING JOKE!!!!

Washington is NOT supposed to be this hot!

EDIT!!!!

Charles Town is 88 degrees with an 82 degree dewpoint. This means that it feels like its 106 degrees there RIGHT NOW 8.48pm West Virginia time!!!!

Looks like they topped out at 91 degrees with lows around 77. It's 88 degrees there alongside 82 degree dewpoints. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR ANYONE DOING WORK OUTSIDE.

Just noticed in central MAINE heat indices to 110 degrees expected. THAT'S VERY VERY BAD.

Going on 9 and sitting at 88/79 with a heat index of 104. That is just not right.

You should not have dewpoints at 79 degrees. You are way too far north for this. Those are conditions for the Gulf Coast or places like Buda, Texas where I live. I've been out in this all spring/early summer. I'm used to it.

I am of the mindset that if we are going to have tropical dewpoints then we are entitled to have tropical downpours.

some years ago, during a very warm summer, JFK recorded a dewpoint of 84F with a wind right off the ocean (the ocean was super warm).  If you're by the water, you can get there.

A co-worker of mine lives in Pasadena MD.  Over 20 years at this location w/ detailed daily obs, and he notes his dew point hits 80 often every summer due to the proximity of the bay.  Does not matter if it is a near normal high temp for the day or a big heatwave.

I can vouch for this as well. Northeastern AA Co especially due to the orientation of the Severn / Magothy Rivers. The same goes for places such as Middle River up to Aberdeen with southerly winds.

Edit: It's 87/78/100 at 11pm in College Park with SW winds coming from the DC Heat Island... Blehhhhhhh

Meet tonight was rough. Had a fan, mister, and cooler to keep it tolerable. Despite drinking plenty of fluids still got a nasty headache to deal with for hours after. Morning practice is looking good be annoying with such high dew points and my costume of George Washington to get kids excited for our A-meet Friday.

yeah once the bay water temp approaches 90F, we have some Gulf Coast-like micro-climates around here.

even DCA will get 78-79 a few times each summer.  80 once in a blue moon.

my hygrometer recorded an 80+ dewpoint yesterday with a 122 HI, but I think that's suspect. I'm guessing my real HI yesterday was more like 115 or a bit less.

Right now I'm at 75/74.
