OBS: 1/25-26 Snow/Sleet

I mentioned this a couple of days ago,this cold dome is for real. No model can predict that js. Nothing retreating about this cold even at upper levels,its fighting rn.

Agreed. It was def the first to really sniff out the potential for taint but was way too aggressive with it. The mix line stalled out between I-78 & I-80. Based on the reports here sounds like it may actually be retreating a bit

absolutely the nam won here.....its clown map was off mainly because of ratio but for south of 78 it won..it was the first to show the warm nose and stuck with it while other models never had it at all and put out `12-16..the gfs which many weenies clung to was embarrassing

Remember that Pivotal or TT clown maps show the ptype colors based on model output and a ptype algorithm. If sleet is shown on Pivotal that doesn't mean the model precludes a mix of snow and sleet south of that line. And yes the HRRR has done a good job of sagging the mix line south. It also has the benefit of being run every hour.

It's all or nothing on the pretty pictures.  I have seen output that shows mixed precip, but that isn't great either.

Yeah I've had that same sleet/snow mix back and forth since it got here. Sometimes more sleet sometimes more snow

I miss the days when people used the NCEP page for QPF, 925/850/700 temp, 850/700RH & omego, and 500mb heights. The snowmaps from Pivotal and TT that get thrown around online have really caused a dumbing down of meteorology.

Temp dropped back from 21 to 20. Snow/sleet mix still. 

Upton has a nightime high of 29, not sure i see that happening

The snow has gotten noisier, but it looks like all snow maybe more snow pellets but very low visibility. Temp is dropping as well

Snow sleet mix in central Morris at the moment. Vis. is higher for the moment... fluctuates with the % of snow.

Probably a half inch or so of crud since the sleet first mixed in. What a mess. I agree-these flakes must be forming under the warm layer.

I don't think the NAM had NYC/LI switching back to snow after 4:00 pm.

The temperature has dropped 2° in the last 45 minutes.  That's one element that I really wasn't expecting at this time of day.  18° snow/sleet mix.
