JFC, are kids made of toilet paper these days. In mine and @mitchnickdays before they had electricity schools rarely closed. I remember having to slide on my ass to the bottom of my block to catch the school bus since my block was too icy for it to come on.

I’m out of town. My wife says streets are good but lots of sidewalks are untouched.

I think between last February and last week I've finally gotten the joy of this hobby beaten out of me. At this point it simply is what it is and the atmosphere will do what it will. No need to get upset or invested about it until its snowing; after all, when in my life has it trended to not ruin a storm.

You know folks in the DMV, Snowshoe is not all that far away from you all.

All the answers to all your ills is there at Snowshoe, they have been getting demolished by torrential snow for weeks and weeks!

By now they probably have more snow than Mammoth has right now. Mammoth only has 64 inches in their snowpack. I know Snowshoe has much much more than that. It has been snowing HARD every day for the past two MONTHS! That place is The Day After Tomorrow! It's been cloudy for weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks there and it is ALWAYS snowing at night! It's been like that at Snowshoe since late November! Talk about a MICROCLIMATE!

The sidewalks are a disaster.  My neighborhood has always been good about clearing them, but this storm was a complete breakdown.  Kids walking to sledding locations have been walking in the streets.  No way was school ever opening.

BCPS said it was because school properties/local area roads are still a mess as the reason why. I wasn’t surprised.

I think between last February and last week I've finally gotten the joy of this hobby beaten out of me. At this point it simply is what it is and the atmosphere will do what it will. No need to get upset or invested about it until its snowing; after all, when in my life has it trended to not ruin a storm. 

The “healthiest” way to like snow is probably just to look at the 7-day forecast and be thankful for what you get. Take a ski trip every year so you don’t get skunked. Problem is I don’t think there is any way out once you get in too deep. I’m sure even those who have left our forum still check in their own time. Might as well suffer together, IMO!

I think the ultimate healthiest way would be to completely avoid models/forecasts all together and just be pleasantly surprised when it happens. That and trips to WV. Though I agree its too late for us but we can still make it better by limiting exposure.

If forecasting the weather seven days out were as simple as looking at the Euro and calling it gospel, I wouldn’t find it nearly as compelling. The real fascination lies in the uncertainty of what might unfold.
