48 out to Davis will be passable.  You won't hit any snow at all until you make the final climb up the plateau around Bismark.  You'll only be driving through maybe 15 - 20 miles of snow to Blackwater.  The trucks do an OK job plowing.  The worst part will be the roads inside the park.

Dolly Sods is a really rough and slow ride up, and I did it in the early Summer in a Jeep.. You might want to reconsider that one. I would stick to the valley and the Canaan Valley resort area. Plenty of good hiking around there.

eta- You could hike up but I wouldn't recommend it if you aren't experienced. I cant imagine any access roads via vehicle are open in winter.

Blackwater will be fine regardless of snow depth. I've been up there w 2-3 ft of snow depth and while the roads can be snow packed, they are drivable. 

There will be no driving access to dolly sods. The FS roads that provide direct access are closed in the winter. You may want to look into going to whitegrass ski area and paying their small day use fee for hiking and snowshoeing. You can hike up above 4000ft and when you're done, get a hot meal at their hut at the base.

Well, just woke up and looked outside and it effing snowed! Looks like maybe a quarter inch. That was totally unexpected.

Currently 23.2/16.3 with a few flurries in the air. It flurried yesterday morning until 9-10 am, and started again overnight around 4-5 am, but never enough to accumulate. Still nice seeing it fall, and it has been chilly! Fell back into upper teens right after midnight, but slowly rose once the clouds (and flurries) returned, low 18.3 degrees.

Overperformed overnight with this initial disturbance. I drove out to Morgantown at 630a for a workout class at Orangetheory which wasn’t the best idea. White knuckle driving the whole way on 68. Roads were not in good shape between the falling and blowing snow. We had about 1.5” when I left the house, time to head back.

How much have you received since snow began? I would like to take your total, subtract a bit so I can keep my tally going.

I went back and looped the radar and that band really blossomed right overhead. Based on the returns it would have been coming down moderately. It then weakened as it moved east. I was in exactly the right spot lol.

I haven’t been diligent this time especially with the wind making measuring almost impossible.  Wisp is reporting 3” overnight so I’ll just go with that.  I’ll try to measure tonight/tomorrow’s storm so you can keep your tally going.  

LWX point and click says 1-3” today and 5-9” tonight - it feels like we’ll end up on the higher end of those ranges based on how this first wave over performed.  The lift is impressive on the models and the trajectory of the wave will really enhance upslope — that coupled with the ratios of upper teens/low 20s:1 and I’m excited for tonight.  Hope your chase is epic!
