Well I guess the present thinking is that we’re due for snow here in the NYC metro. We’ve had snow just to our north, just to our west (today and a few days ago) and now to our south for DC and people further south. At some point I’m assuming we’ll get on board just to fill in the map lol. Hopefully soon. It’s truly looking like this is the coldest December since 2013. In terms of the snow department; who knows? But we will have enough cold. Let’s hope we have enough snow as well

Certainly not. It's as NYC metro as LBI NJ. Neither place would I call NYC metro.

Geographically Bellayre is SENY. It's upstate to the 85% of the population that lives south of it. It's downstate to the 85% of the land area of NY that lies at a latitude above it.

Looks like low teens are easy here tonight, single digits on Monday night...also looks like it won't hit 30 tomorrow or Monday.

We're not even close to peak snow climo, I think some have expectations way too high this time of year.  Just be happy it feels like winter...

Well, it is in Ulster County, which is part of the NYC DMA, as is LBI, in Ocean County, so if one uses the NYC DMA it's part of NYC Metro.  Not everyone uses the DMA, of course.  It's also closer to Central Park than the east end of LI, which I think everyone would consider part of NYC Metro.

Would rather have snow the last week of December rather then the first week - many times when it has snowed early in the month it warms up towards the end of the month and its mild with no snow on the ground Christmas week .........last year was considered to be a "White Christmas" believe it or not with the little snow that was on the ground in most areas of the immediate metro...........This year the falling SOI and the fading LaNina supported by MJO in phase 8 should activate the southern jet BUT all the players on the field have to align just right to produce a snowstorm here........also another Strat warming event is going to unfold the second half of the month so this pattern should extend well into January.............

Some 6 am temperatures:

Albany: 2° (tied record set in 1886 and tied in 1926 and 1989)
Binghamton: 5° (tied record set in 1971 and tied in 1989)
New York City-LaGuardia Airport: 20° (old record: 21°, 1942)
White Plains: 14° (tied record set in 1966)

Albany has its coldest temperature so early in the season since 1989.

Same ole Great lakes tracks. It's cold/dry to warm/wet and back to cold dry. 
Horrible pattern for snow here. Maybe in January when storm track drops south we'll get something but this is a crappy pattern. 
Time to move to the lakes, tons of lake effect snows 

The economy there has been awful for generations.

Or Richmond. Seems to snow plenty there these days with these suppressed crap storms.

Heads up early Saturday: NO thread at this time but there could be a frozen-freezing trace to 1/4" snow-sleet-freezing rain event  along I95 tomorrow morning between roughly 2A-8A (rain Long Island). Not threading but multiple models trying for this including the late on board EC. It's minor but worthy of monitoring and I could see this eventually needing a short fuse SPS, or even an advisory.  These are the unexpected travel issues, especially after an afternoon of temps barely above freezing.
