wxdude64 Posted yesterday at 01:11 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:11 PM Set a new 'cool max' for the date of 37.8 degrees, beating (barely) the 39.0 from 2018 and 1996. Temps climbed here after midnight when it was in upper 20's to 37.4 degrees at 7 am. Although radar looked good last night for about an hour, nothing made it to the ground. Eskimo Joe Posted yesterday at 01:44 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 01:44 PM While low temperatures were kind of 'meh' this week, we won big time on day time departures. Yesterday's high of 45 degrees at BWI was 14 degrees below normal.

If that streak is gonna break I guess we can't count on it breaking in a la nina. Even dang Atlanta got flurries before we did. It baffles me to no end how the supposed boundary is inching "north" yet places just south--or WAY south--of here have seen more snow than we have over the last 8 years. Just on a commonsense level that makes zero sense. You'd think warmer would mean that wouldn't happen as much and yet here we are!

It's unfortunate happenstance that some spots further south are on a bit of a "run" (though I doubt if you asked the SE thread folks, they'd think they've been on a heater) but in the greater timescale of recorded meteorological history the streak you refer to is a blip. It'll average back out in the averages eventually.
wxdude64
Well, the wind machine is back on here. Been breezy (15-25 mph at times) from W most of afternoon, soon as the sun set it hit another gear. Just had a 38 mph gust 5 minutes ago. Currently W at 24 gusting to 35.

high risk
Incredibly tricky temperature forecasts this weekend. Warm air will be lurking just our south and southwest, but there is increasing concern now that we'll end up on the cooler side of the boundary each day.
katabatic
After a true winter's day two days ago (29/16), it didn't make it below freezing last night and poof, there went our little snow cover. Going to be beautiful the next few days at least. 1

Anecdotal and vibes-based, but it seems like since August we’ve been trending cooler at short and mid-ranges in contrast to what seems like always betting warm. Next week potentially looking quite chilly now. Mid-month torch that was expected has been muted/deleted for sure.
