Looking at Cuba stats.  In 2015, 11.2 million people lived in Cuba.  In 2025, it was 10.9 million people.  I guess people don't like communism so much.

Loss of population is not unique to Cuba.  For example, in 2015, Greece's population was approximately 10.8 million, while the 2025 population is estimated to be around 9.9 million.  Over the same timespan, Greece lost more people than Cuba.

Italy's population was approximately 60.9 million in 2015 and is estimated to be around 58.9 million in 2025. The population has been declining, with a projected further decrease to about 50 million by 2050.

Countries lose population when they have a low birth rate, and the number of immigrants is low.  This is a world-wide phenomenon, except in Africa.

That's some of the first video I have seen in the landfall zone. You can tell by how the trees were snapped and the overturned vehicles that extreme winds were experienced.

The video with all the trees stripped was from Bluefields organic blueberry farm.  They are 1/2 mile inland on a hill.  The towns around them must be wiped off the map.

Yeah there's a ton of clusters of houses along the back roads  through the hills that don't look like much on the map but account for thousands of residents. Similar to the Appalachians in that way. Hill tops along the path of the eye could have easily had gusts over 180 mph. These people could be cut off for weeks without shelter, water etc.

I'm absolutely impressed with the buildings in Jamaica. Other than the roofs being blown off and destroyed most of the buildings are completely intact which is really good to see. I have a feeling if their homes weren't made with solid concrete that they would not have survived this well.

Two things - one, you are likely seeing a lot shells. Everything inside is shredded and there is no confidence the shell isn't damaged. Two, what isn't / wasn't concrete is gone. So you might be seeing 30% of the pre-existing structures.

Yeah this.   Despite having the look of most-structure-still-standing - I would venture those videos are showing well over 90% actual destruction.   When you include the cost of cleanup - it may cost more to clear-out-and-rebuild those areas than it cost to build them in the first place.

Also probably tons of flood damage inside near the coast where any surge reached. In my experience in Sandy that’s exactly what happened. From the outside the house looked relatively okay, inside totally devastated.
