do not believe you it has been plenty cold enough to wear a winter coat almost everyday..

Why would I make that up? It was the warmest January on record. Maybe you wear heavy coats when it's in the 40s and 50s, I don't.

In any event, it's 6 here and feels every bit of it. Kind of amazing that this will be a 12 hour cold snap basically then back to March weather for the foreseeable future.

Low of 1 here, currently 3.

My life long above zero streak remains unbroken.

ISP has not gone below 0 now since 1988...I believe a big reason is urbanization around the airport thereafter....we had many airmasses since where they would regularly go below 0 before that but do not anymore

6° with snow flurries at present in Smithtown.

East end is a little closer to the cold core...lots of 3s and 4s there already on the forks.  Even Block Island is down to 1.  -7 to -9 city proper around Boston...right down to the water.

Boston got down to -10 the coldest it's been since 1957 there!

Meanwhile here it's been around 4-5 still the coldest since VD 2014 and not that far from the temps we had that morning.

About Verification: Low this morning CP I think was 4 above.

EC was cyclically consistent at +2 to 5F;  18z ish/3 blend of models looked like a low of +10. 12z/3 MOS MET +8, 12z/3 MOS MAV +6.

Let the data do the talking.  Have to be careful about the guidance usage, especially critical situations.

Seems like the kind of airmasses we used to get in the 1930s and prior only make it as far south as Boston now.

The cases in 88 where ISP did it were calm nights...they used to be sort of like FOK/HWV but to less of an extent...once we got into the 90s though I think increased development in areas near them to the east likely cause somewhat of a UHI and even in 94 and 96 setups where in the 80s they may have went below 0 they no longer did

The worst of the cold was just a little northeast of our area. Some of the temperatures on the coast to our north and east are really as low as I can remember seeing. Below zero at coastal locations on Cape Cod, Nantucket, eastern Ct. and Rhode Island. Zero at Montauk, -9 in Boston.

-2 was the low at Montauk, -6 at Block Island, -10 at Boston

This may be the first time I recall FOK going below 0 with any gradient....in the arctic outbreaks since 94 I do not recall a case where on a windy night they got under 1 or 2

it's weird that NYC went below a few times in 1994 and ISP did not
