Hum,  this little system going through tonight.  Trending heavier for Mark/Brian and me.  Will we be cold enough for snow.  Seems like a band of advisory sneaky snow in our area.  The 12Z runs will be telling.

If we manage 2-4 and then 8-12 Saturday it would be quite the snowpack for March and perhaps building into mid month.  Gonna be an ugly mid sEason

Not winter's biggest (It's currently 3rd) but perhaps the nicest to clear since the 8.0" had only 0.51" LE, ratio 15.7-to-1.  22-23 is now ahead of the previous 2 winters (52.5, 67.1) with 73.3".  Maybe we break the 3-winter run of BN snow?  Only need about 15" more.

February 2023:

Avg Max:  30.4   +1.2    Highest: 49 on the 16th
Avg Min:    8.0     +1.8   Lowest:  -22 on the 4th, also lowest max at 1°.
Avg Mean:  19.2  +1.5

Precip:  1.73"   1.32" BN   Most in a day: 0.39" on the 28th.

Snow:   16.3"   6.3" BN   Most: 6.5" on the 28th.   Have not had all 3 met winter months AN since 2008-09.
Avg Depth:  21.1"  1.7" AN   Ranged from 19" mid-month to 27" as the month ended.

The month was characterized by frigid wx at start and finish but substantially AN temps between.  The Arctic blast on 3-4 set some WCI records, in particular at MWN.  The other character was a bunch of tiny to small snow events during the first 27 days - 9 separate events totaling only 9.8" with none greater than 2.5".
Temp whiplash:
   1-7:     6.3°, 9.1 BN
   8-22: 29.1°, 10.9 AN
23-28:   9.7°, 11.3 BN

BTV climate piece sums up winter:

&&

.CLIMATE... The meteorological winter (December to February) has come to a close. Preliminary average temperature data indicates it was the 3rd warmest winter on record in Burlington with a value of 29.0 degrees, behind the 2016-2017 and 2015-2016 seasons. Snowfall was 46.9"; among the last 20 seasons, this is the 4th lowest total, inching ahead of 2005-2006, and well ahead of 2015-2016 and 2011-2012.

Doing some sun and fun for 10 days, so missed a bunch of these recent events and upcoming ones too.

That is absolutely bonkers. I’d start to be worried about getting buried if one of those snow walls calved off.  Walk one at a time to make sure if someone gets buried another person is able to get them out, ha.  Children can’t go outside either, going to drown.

Heading there today and first ski day Sat. Hoping I timed it right with a few days for the pack to settle. Another 2-3' on the way...

They’ve had avalanches crashing down towards residences in the area.

Just insane snow.  The Sheriff’s office had these photos in Olympic Valley.

That’s a 3-story building!

Congrats Lincoln to Jackson.

First time I’ve seen cars off the road all year. 3” at home

Wet snow equals grabby slush piles and when packed it behaves like Crisco.

2" here.  Snow had become very light until a good band about 10:45.  The view beyond the birches is about 1/4 mile, and the trees across that field are barely there.

Early this morning I got a text alert about a Winter Storm Watch for our area, so I’ve got the current BTV NWS maps below.  Our area is in the 8-12” shading and our point forecast is 6-10” prior to Saturday night, so those projections seem fairly consistent  They’ll presumably update the maps this afternoon after incorporating the midday guidance.
