two confirmed dead in wilmington after being trapped under a collapsed home, with tree damage. but def minimal stuff going on there

No offense, people die from an inch of snow or a wet roadway after 5 minutes of rain. Just humanity and luck (or lack of it)

The hurricane shouldnt be minimized...but this is what happens when you have cable news, social media and the EVIL weather channel hyping things up for ratings day after day.

”Why Florence is a storm like no other” from cnn.com the other day.

Every hurricane that hits the US now is the biggest, baddest, most scary storm ever...and it never rained this much or moved this slow and and and...

Or it is a Category 1 storm hitting the Outer Banks. And it will suck. And there will be some damage. And some people will need to be rescued. And some people didnt leave. And some people will die. And there will be flooding. And , yes, there will be storm surge!

And it isnt unusal...for a hurricane...in North Carolina...at all.

I dont recall the last time two people died from a tree crushing their entire home......and not sure I'd simply call it "bad luck"

It is appalling and it's another discussion entirely but that's why people can't agree on "facts" anymore.

My thoughts,

It was a little more than I expected, but nothing I will remember a week from now. The media hyped this to the max. Yea New Bern got hit hard, but they straddle 2 rivers and a sound. I have yet to see miles of beach houses in the ocean. It's a typical low end Carolina cane with more inland flooding. For the people who died..... if they would have trimmed the tree they would be alive. That's my 2 cents and I'll leave it at that. I just think all the mass panic was a joke.

I'm not saying that things weren't blown out of proportion to an extent, but isn't Browns Summit, NC over 200 miles from the coast?

Why yes it is!

This wasn't Andrew, Hugo, Katrina, Camile or Fran. It was a joke and will always be a joke. This wasnt a mass extinction event so yea

I work in emergency management and I agree that things got a little out of hand, but considering a number of rain bands haven't budged for many, many hours I'm going to reserve judgement on severity. Credible sources are saying over 20" have fallen in some places along the shore - that's not a joke in my book. Certainly not the state-wide impact that was feared, but quite possibly devastating for a lot of folks.
