I've been locked at 15 for last 3 hours after I clouded over. Most sites down here have cloudy skies and have locked at current temp for past several hours too. Was hoping to get to -0.1! but with a forecast low of 7 under mostly cloudy skies, it doesn't look good. Clear, calm nights with snow cover seem so rare in these parts (fast flow?). Lots of tricky little temp plays on a night like this but MOS suggests either steady or slow thru the night after initial drop so my guess is the HRRR is huffing paint. That might be a stretch tooPretty sure HRRR did something similar last time we had snowcover. Like it just kept the initial drop rate going too long or something. Clouds are going to be thick for a while.. Maybe some breaks pre dawn. I don't know the region all that well but you could probably find the little depressions etc by circling the coldest spots. They still have some clear time.. maybe an hour or two. Beach (not sure where obs are from) plus snow plus clear is some good cold maximization. astarck Posted January 23, 2014 Share Posted January 23, 2014 Down in Fredericksburg, PWS was at 19 at 5pm. Bottomed out at 1.8 by 8:50. At one point it was dropping 1.5 degrees every 10 minutes.
