From SPC Day 2 re: Irene

...HURRICANE IRENE...

HURRICANE IRENE IS EXPECTED TO LIFT NNEWD ALONG THE MIDDLE ATLANTIC
COAST AND LIKELY COME ASHORE OVER WRN LONG ISLAND EARLY SUNDAY
BEFORE EJECTING ACROSS NEW ENGLAND. GIVEN ITS EXPECTED TRACK...MUCH
OF SRN NEW ENGLAND...TO THE RIGHT OF THE CIRCULATION CENTER...WILL
EXPERIENCE STRONG LOW LEVEL SHEAR AND AN INCREASE IN THETA-E AND
BUOYANCY. FORECAST THERMODYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE
THAT UNSTABLE...BUT LIKELY ENOUGH TO WARRANT LOW TOPPED SUPERCELLS.
FOR THIS REASON HAVE OPTED TO INCLUDE LOW PROBABILITIES FOR ISOLATED
TORNADOES WHERE STRONGEST SURGE OF BOUNDARY LAYER
MOISTURE/INSTABILITY WILL EXIST FOR ROBUST UPDRAFTS.

What was that giant "Boing" noise I heard from the direction of West Hartford?

This is going to go over a lot of mainland NC it seems. We'll see if it has much affect.

That part of NC is like a giant swamp barely above sea level with a ton of inlets, so I don't think that is going to have a huge effect. A bigger concern is getting it to jog E so it doesn't go over the length of NJ inland.

If anything the enhanced friction helped the ageostrophic flow and tightened the core lol

Didn't know that, Will...thanks. Hopefully Ryan is right in thinking this turns NE soon.

Do you think Irene will tend to want to go east?

And taking it's time doing it.

No hurricane strength sustained in the hourlies from official stations over NC http://www.weather.gov/view/prodsByState.php?state=nc&prodtype=hourly

Impressive how it did gather a little onshore at least in the radar presentation. Not moving at all, slight hint the remnant eyewall just wobbled west
