Appreciate the report. There's definitely a little band setting up right along MD 97 into Carroll County. I polled some of the DOT cameras in that area and the roads and sidewalks are starting to cave.

They fluctuate in their closings, but they have been burned many times by forecasts of snow that ended up as cold rain. Then parents get pissed. So they often do a delay with a re-evaluation for closing. If the NWS would give us a WARNING, they would go ahead and close. But don't worry. They will probably change it later this evening to give parents a heads-up. 1

snowmagnet
Neighborhood roads caving in Fairfax. Apparently non-weather nerds don't use the word caving like we do. My English teacher friends have been asking me for updates all day, and they were confused when I said my deck was caving. LOL.

heavy_wx
There's some indication of a dendritic growth zone signature in the polarimetric radar observations from KLWX. The ring of enhanced ZDR and KDP align roughly where the radial gradient in reflectivity is greatest, indicating rapid growth of ice crystals through vapor deposition and aggregation. These crystals tend to stick together efficiently and help produce large aggregates. Temperatures near freezing at the surface also favor larger particles. 6
