eduggs
It kind of looks like the better snow threat (at least away from the immediate cost) is Sat the 17.
Tar Heel Snow
This is going to have some corrections inland. Not saying it’s going to be a big storm hit, but models in general stink with WAA-driven systems and tend to push them out to sea.

Tar Heel Snow
Back to back runs with snow to the gulf. Wild. Looks like this will be more realistic with totals but we’ve held serve. Survive and advance. Gotta keep bullying the atmosphere into doing what we need it to do

Tar Heel Snow
Verbatim that’s snowing in the city for 9 straight hours during the day. Give me that 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

It takes a ton of snow to slow anything down in the city and that’s not on the table

eduggs
Seems like not much changed overall. The GFS is the strongest western outlier and a model blend would bring a near miss or scraper. Multiple micro-lows and vorticity near the Lakes works against us. The optimal solution involves a vormax near the base of the trof to sharpen it up and involve Gulf moisture. With some ridging out ahead of the trof, that would bring precipitation up the coast and keep a SLP more closely tucked. Otherwise this ends up more offshore. I'd be adding an additional hour to my trip in travel time.

I think we'll get something in this period but the better stuff waits til late Jan into Feb. Upcoming pattern is likely the most favorable pattern for snow and significant snows that we've had in years. And peak snow climo too.
