This shouldn't have been much of a surprise. This was well signaled for days as a short duration, high intensity event. And models were showing near or just below freezing wetbulb temps even to the coast. That's not a terrible antecedent airmass.

Yup dp were in the middle teens this morning I made it to 36* before the heavy snow started quickly down to 32*

2 inches here! Back edge of the snow just about here. Beautiful scene with the trees coated with wet snow. This ended up being a nice little event and tomorrow should be even better.

Today is a nice overperformer. NYC saw 0.09" precipitation in the past hour and that sent the temperature all the way down to the wet bulb figure of 32°.

I didn't expect it to accumulate on all surfaces so quickly but that's what heavier rates will do for you especially in January.

Probably not a 10:1 accumulation, especially in Manhattan, but we have over 1 inch here in Bayside. Still probably a few hours ago, maybe we can make it to 2"?

It will probably be closer to 7-8:1, which is much better than what would have been the case had the precipitation been lighter.  Outside the City, things are on course and some areas could see ratios near 10:1.

be careful with the models using some snowfall 24 hour and total snowfall maps because these 2 storms this weekend overlap in them more or less

We will bank 4" here for this event.  Time to get out and clean up which won't be difficult.  It'll be nice having snow around for the upcoming cold.

24 hour snowfall is better

Nws now says 2-4 today and 2-4 tomorrow in their HWO, so now 4-8 between them, which is what the GFS showed a few runs back and I weenied it.  God you never know.  Second guessing the models is often times profitable but not this time.
