I mean its been BN temp wise and basically normal snow wise. But after last several winters its great. this hasnt been gangbusters tho

10 and a half inches of snow here so far this winter. That's solidly above normal snowfall to this point.

This morning's snow squall brought Central Park its first measurable snowfall on New Year's Day since 1987. All amounts are preliminary and the final amounts at some of the locations could be higher.

Thanks Don. Last year and this year so far have reminded me a lot of the 80s growing up. Figures.

2018/2019 through 2023/2024 a good representation of the 90s.

Thats just from midnight-7AM or the whole event? looks like its just the calendar day, BDR should def be higher.

Also, where did you get that from? i was looking for climo sites snowfall totals this morning but the CLI wasn't out yet

The LGA number is a little suspect, especially when looking at the radar.

It's nice to see the Park getting two measurements in a row correct. They have been especially bad the last 4-5 years on the under 1 inch amounts, often times ignoring them or recording a T.

Just midnight through 7 am. As noted some locations were still receiving snowfall. A subsequent update should cover the final amounts. Moreover, since I was showing only snowfall from the squall, that omitted the 0.1" that fell at Newark yesterday.

That's only through 7 am. I suspect that the final number will show measurable snowfall at LaGuardia.

IMO it never made sense with the EPO spike which many of the individual members showed and the GEPS/GEFS had.

The op EURO/EPS was absolutely awful with its big west-based -NAO block it kept insisting on for days, run after run for early-mid January, which is totally gone now. A really bad performance with that

Miserable day. I came down with that cold that’s going around to start the year off the right way.

A thaw would be nice. A few days near 55 with no wind please

You know what would be even better? An entire January where 50+ never happens, but to each his own.

The last time we were able to pull off that feat was back in 2009.

Sounds like you are ready to retire to Florida?

family dealing with both covid and flu, and daughter getting over unidentified throat infection she had on and off for a month; it took 3 rounds of antibiotics and steroids; she lost her voice too. yet the throat scope with a camera showed hardly anything; all tests were negative and they went after them all, viruses, strep, you name it. i won't mind a few days of warmer conditions so my hands will stop bleeding and i can sleep at night without itching all over from dryness.....then i'll be ready for some more snow, and i don't care what the teleconnections say, so far this winter has snowy written all over it. we'll see.

It was too strong with the -NAO and too weak with the Northern Stream of the Pacific Jet into the Pacific NW.

So this lowered heights more out West which allowed the ridge axis to get pushed further to the east.

The big question for mid to late January is exactly where the ridge and trough axis sets up?

Euro went much colder. Short warmup but repeated tendency to drive western ridge and east trough.

EPS would still set up a nice 2nd half after the thaw and honestly given the cold, snowy December it tracks.

But of course we can't underestimate the northern stream either.

He's just trying to get a rise out of us.

It’s a shame because he’s obviously an intelligent poster but because he’s equally as much a troll, he really ruins his credibility with a lot of people on the board. And when he’s wrong he will never admit it - just moves onto his next troll. Sad for him
