If BWI for the High stays at 32, it will be 2nd coldest high for 12/09 on record.

Good work

January and Feb 61 and 62 were cold. Probably gotta add +3/4 to equate to now but still below average. Muddled models  be damned, observations and analogs Continue  to show real cold for Jan and definitely not mild for Feb

Yes, but 89 shows up too and illustrates another possible outcome, that the best the season has to offer is actually happening right now and once the pattern inevitably relaxes it either never comes back (1990) or once it does it's only after taking an extended break (2005-06).

2005 is referenced because it had a similar gangbusters start and then abruptly collapsed on 12.23, not coincidentally exactly what the GFS was depicting today (so, its not without precedent by a longshot in the...pattern analogs).

Got a bike ride in after work partly to test my tolerance for these temps and it was actually kinda refreshing until halfway thru when I could barely feel my fingers.  I even took a hand warmer with me.  I probably could use warmer gloves, but yea, it's cold outside and this was probably below my threshold.

It's a bit deceptive outside now at least imby in southwest Garrett County. Temp is 44 with the sun shining - hardly what you would expect for a blizzard warning (begins in 45 minutes). In fact, the last blizzard warning I had last winter, the day ended up being sunny for 90% of it with next to no snow and very moderate winds. But today, I've had multiple gusts exceed 50 MPH and if/when the snow begins, it'll be tough going. So...bring it!

Took a trip up to Mountain Lake in Giles Co and easily 6 to 7 inches of powder on the ground. Lots of rime ice all over everything and temps were in the low 20s with no wind.

So the winds have gone completely calm, there is no snow on the ground (or falling from the sky) and temperatures are above freezing with no visibility restrictions. This isn't the kind of blizzard I had in mind.

...BURSTS OF HEAVY SNOW POSSIBLE THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT...

Bands of heavy snow are possible this evening through the
overnight hours. Heavy snow and strong wind gusts could
significantly reduce visibility in a short time, and lead to
dangerous driving conditions.

Temperatures dropping below freezing will allow for snow to
quickly accumulate on roadways during the overnight hours, and
roads may be slick, especially ones that are untreated.

If traveling and encountering adverse driving conditions, reduce
speed, ensure headlights are on, and leave plenty of room between
you and other vehicles.

...BURSTS OF SNOW POSSIBLE BETWEEN 5 AND 10 PM...

Bursts of snow are possible between 5 and 10 PM this evening.
Affected locations will see rapidly changing weather and road
conditions, with brief heavy snow and gusty winds. A quick snow
accumulation up to an inch is possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be prepared for areas of blowing snow. This could lead to
temporary whiteout conditions and the potential for dangerous
driving conditions. If you are traveling and encounter adverse
winter driving conditions, reduce speed and make sure headlights
are on.
