Good work

January and Feb 61 and 62 were cold. Probably gotta add +3/4 to equate to now but still below average. Muddled models  be damned, observations and analogs Continue  to show real cold for Jan and definitely not mild for Feb

Yes, but 89 shows up too and illustrates another possible outcome, that the best the season has to offer is actually happening right now and once the pattern inevitably relaxes it either never comes back (1990) or once it does it's only after taking an extended break (2005-06). 

2005 is referenced because it had a similar gangbusters start and then abruptly collapsed on 12.23, not coincidentally exactly what the GFS was depicting today (so, its not without precedent by a longshot in the...pattern analogs).

Got a bike ride in after work partly to test my tolerance for these temps and it was actually kinda refreshing until halfway thru when I could barely feel my fingers.  I even took a hand warmer with me.  I probably could use warmer gloves, but yea, it's cold outside and this was probably below my threshold.

Beautiful day at Blackwater NWR near Cambridge. I was surprised to see so much ice buildup in the ponds, river, and the watery areas of the marsh.

We just got back from Atlanta tonight. Expected it to be really cold but honestly the 40 and damp down there was worse than the 32 and dry up here.

Took a trip up to Mountain Lake in Giles Co and easily 6 to 7 inches of powder on the ground. Lots of rime ice all over everything and temps were in the low 20s with no wind.

Columbia: Temps on the rise. Down to 27 at 5am, but 28 at 6am.

It's a bit deceptive outside now at least imby in southwest Garrett County. Temp is 44 with the sun shining - hardly what you would expect for a blizzard warning (begins in 45 minutes). In fact, the last blizzard warning I had last winter, the day ended up being sunny for 90% of it with next to no snow and very moderate winds. But today, I've had multiple gusts exceed 50 MPH and if/when the snow begins, it'll be tough going. So...bring it!

The cold stayed wedged in here today.  Forecast high was 46.  Currently raining and 37.

At my mechanic in Westminster and got snow pellets mixing in here.
