Though next semester when I’m in lab for the class I’ll have access to it and will use it to create a scew T diagram!

scope1
Should be a fun night in the mountains of Washington State. Perhaps they will get more snow tonight and tomorrow than what we will see in 2+ years. I remember being up there in September a few years ago near Leavenworth, WA and there was snow/sleet with accumulation at some higher elevations.

IAD is perfectly situated in a little shallow bowl which promotes cold air drainage on calm nights. https://www.heywhatsthat.com/profiler.html - very old website that I still find useful sometimes. The change in color is at IAD, with a west to east profile. 3
Eskimo Joe
RSTM2 COOP site - had my first sub 60 degree high of the autumn yesterday. Got down to 36 last night, yet somehow our hibiscus on the deck is still pumping out blooms.

Next 7 days the forecast highs are between 49 and 56 and lows 36-40 with at least a chance of rain 5 of those 7, yep fall is here. Probably fire up the woodstove Monday or Tuesday for the first time.

DCA's heat island has kept increasing. Their last subfreezing temp in October was in 1992; before that you have to go back to the famously cold October 1976, the prequel to the brutal winter of 1977.
87storms
The current satellite loop depicts us finally getting a high pressure to the north strong enough to allow for a system to actually move to the south. Is this the start of a pattern change towards systems that produce more than NS shortwave-inspired broken lines of showers and remnant cloud slop? 87storms
NOAA satellite loop hasn’t updated since early this morning. Nice day here, though…probably managed about 50/50 sun/clouds.

Paleocene
I was just in Minneapolis for a couple days. To my surprise, the leaf color there in the inner suburbs was quite similar to how it is here, currently. Maybe a couple days to a week ahead. I had never been there this time of year before so I figured they'd already be past peak due to the higher latitude/cooler climate.

Your observation is probably(at least partly) because we have had quite a cool early Fall that has continued through October, instead of the usual second summer that can be warm right into mid October. Color definitely seems ahead of schedule here. Nearing peak. The upper Midwest has also been generally above normal, so without significant elevation differences it probably evens out. Just my take.

Burned first fire Friday evening. Was so pleasant, did it again yesterday. The trees still have most of their leaves, and our house is not getting the significant solar gain we get in winter. Makes a noticeable difference in comfort on sunny days, (especially at our age). Frost on many neighborhood roofs again this morning, but still no freeze this season.
wxdude64
Just built first fire of the season. A cloudy and cool day with light E/NE breezes making it feel a bit cooler than the current 51.0/41.2 at 2 pm.
IronTy
I ran the wood stove all weekend. Two weeks ago I looked at the latest electricity prices and decided I needed to order more firewood for the winter. 4
