Good way to attract lots of spiders (and f up migrating birds, but that's a different story)

tamarack
Storm total 2.64", almost as much as July/August combined (2.85"). About 1.8" fell 5 PM-midnight. Neither the Sandy nor the Carrabassett have risen much, about 1/2 foot. The upper parts of their watersheds received less rain - 'Bassett 1.14" and Rangeley probably about the same. Sounds like orb weavers. They’re great at killing other bugs. Non venomous to humans I've read that almost all spider species are poisonous - it's how they eat - but very few are dangerously poisonous.
weatherwiz
No, it wasn't that. It was yellow (or like a golden brown) with the light orange body or brownish orange. But it was crawling at me...I had no choice.

Yup it should be a sin to kill those. They are very useful and pretty to look at

Some can bite and they all have venom to kill prey for sure but except for the black widow and the brown recluse there are no spiders in this country with the kind of venom to threaten people. And they are very shy spiders in general as well. And neither of them can be found in this part of the country. More the south and Midwest

Found in most parts of the world. Not a threat to people at all

That's enough to attract bugs, which will attract spiders. Heck, even an inside light left on will do that.

I saw my first lantern fly while I was in orange earlier.. I couldn't get a hold of it to kill it but neat to see. These spiders may look bad to @weatherwiz but pretty harmless
CT Valley Snowman
Foliage seems ahead, particularly in CNE, NNE with the worst drought. Those who were going up north for Columbus day should probably adjust southward if they're able to.

powderfreak
We’ve started some color here but it was definitely behind what I saw in SVT elevations last week. This is right now up here.

alex
It seems we are approaching peak here… agree, Columbus Day is going to be well past peak. I tell people every year come early but nobody listen. Much rather pay premium price on Columbus Day to see those sticks than lower rates and smaller crowds a week or two earlier when foliage is still ON the trees !
