I can imagine the areas that flood are probably in pretty bad shape right now thinking West Wildwood and that bridge area and back Bay areas. 

 

The video camera at 15th and surf avenue at the lifeguard station shows a pretty wild situation with huge seas, very choppy conditions and high winds. 

 

Was a crummy week at Dewey but looking forward to some more day trips in September to the beach as the ocean remains warm and there should be some days with offshore winds for good surfing.

We are down at the other end of the island, near the border with diamond beach. My grandparents bought a house in Wildwood in the 70s but then the family 'upgraded' to Wildwood Crest in the 90s.

"wild situation" sums it up here today... I will go back down at high tide and try to get more pics and vids as the surf continues to build up.   The wind is tolerable standing on the beach, but the constant flow from the N/NE just has the sea continuing to build. There's a very very distinct flow downshore to the south.

Yes, I noticed that on the beach with blowing sand.  Please take a video and post it if you can.

Standing on a dune near the shore still about 2 hours from high tide.  Some waves lapping at the base of dunes already.  Pretty sobering what would happen if/when OCMD takes a direct hit again from a major hurricane. Side note:  peak winds were early to midafternoon.  Winds are now diminishing.

Got a direct hit from these slowly moving N to S storms, about 2/3's inch in about 20 minutes, still raining.

We are approaching high tide at Dewey Beach and despite the storm moving away, the waves to me are the worst they've been to this point. 

Huge breakers rolling in and have reached the dune and walkways.

@frd Took two quick vids and I am not a videographer. High tide took the waves and water up to the dunes, which are usually 300-400 feet from the high tide line nearest our beach access here in Wildwood Crest. All the beach paraphernalia (rental equipment shacks, trash cans, porta potties, boardwalks to make the sand easier to cross) have been scattered about by the waves. Big cleanup job for the municipal crews coming up.

Wow,  those waves are huge. Bigger than what I observed in Dewey. Maybe because of the more gradual drop off at the the Wildwood's beaches , versus the crazy drop off at Dewey.

Cloudy and foggy with a few sprinkles, 65.4/64.8. 0.79 in gauge when pulled for CoCoRaHS at 7 am. That storm continued south and dumped 4.27" on Roanoke airport, setting a daily record for them with lots of street/urban flooding.

Sun trying to break thru the clouds finally, after 0.15 (eyeballing from window) of unforecasted light rain/drizzle fell all morning into early afternoon. Kept temps nice, currently 70.8/67.8 at 2:30 pm after being 67/68 all day in the rain.

Beautiful sunny day on the shore with a steady NE breeze. Ocean is rough but warm.  Hopefully, waves will calm down by Sunday.
