Pretty cool here in Kitty Hawk NC 76 dew point 58 with winds screaming in from the NE 20-35 mph double red flag warning no one allowed in the 6-8 foot surf. I’m pretty sure the ocean water temp is like 82 too crazy times.

Mrs.J
Just ate dinner on the deck. Mr. J said it feels like September. Told him it smells like it to. I attribute that to all the trees stressed from our past low precipitation July.

wxdude64
Low was 52.9 degrees here this morning. High was 73.8 degrees, which continues the strange trend of cool temps for the date in the past few years. The record 'cool max' is 69.1 degrees from 2023, then 73.7 in 2020, this 73.8 degrees for today, 74.6 in 2018 and 77.1 in 2016 and 2014. Average for the date is 82/60.

North Balti Zen
72 and completely fair skies / stars out - and a joyful crowd at Merriweather for King Gizzard backed by the national symphony. Great vibe here tonight.

87storms
Epic basketball weather alert with veiled sunshine and legendary temps to start the day. My lower back strain (or whatever it is) was epic for a few days recently as well. Getting older is something.

Smoke at higher altitude I guess, but there was some mixing down possibly responsible for what I smelled on a walk early this morning.
frd
Was at the beach yesterday and the water was very, very warm. Also, the surf was rough with a NE wind that changed to Southerly in the afternoon, waves were messy, hard to ride with mostly onshore flow. The good thing was no jellyfish were sighted at North Wildwood.
87storms
There is a haze as well going on. I have a view south towards Sugarloaf which is hardly visible.

I believe there have been a few days where the smoke has kept high temps down by a degree or two. Looking at the longer range the Boreal forrests of Canda will experience some rainfall, the first in a very long time. You can see it here from the WPC, of note is the reversal of the wetness here after months and months of rainfall.
BlizzardNole
Finally hauled out the sprinklers rather than just hand watering the gardens to try to battle this severe drought. Hoping to soften up the concrete hard ground a little so I can do some weeding Overcast and 71. We'd be dying in winter seeing all the precip to the south with a high to our north blocking it!
frd
Between the NE winds and the system to the South, a rather dreary day for early August. Currently 76/
JenkinsJinkies
With us heading into another Niña I wonder if we’re in this dryness for the long haul? Usually things turn dry between August and October in Niña years and the pattern doesn’t usually break until the Niña does in February/March. Though this past year it actually strengthened and lasted an extra 2 months.
wxdude64
It took all day, but just crossed 68 here (68.6) at 3:30 pm, so there will not be a record 'cool max' set for the day, although close. Record is 68.0 from 1993 and 2004. Cloudy all day, but only sprinkles from the sky.
