Perfect Memorial Day weekend! Thank you veterans. I’ve seen a ton of nymphs this spring. Going to be a bumper crop of flies in another month or two. Jebman
Been real nice knowin everyone. Tornadoes, 75 mph gusts, 4 inch hails, and 3 inch rains with severe storm forecast to slam Austin throughout the night. I want the rain so bad. I really would not mind training thundershowers with 15 inches of rain all night. But hail and high winds are bad. This is a potentially very dangerous situation. One of the positives of baseball....marathon, not a sprint. No, I don't think we're gonna turn it around enough, but we have the talent to AT LEAST get the bats to wake up some. Pitching will kill us for the long term, but we weren't THIS bad imo. Weirder things have happened, but I'm just glad they figured out how to string some good baseball together instead of 1 game followed by 4+ egregious performances.

wxdude64
Well, Carolina finally figured out how to score against Florida and didn't get swept, lol. Like the series to at least go 6, the more games played the better in my book.
Paleocene Posted yesterday at 12:46 AM Share Posted yesterday at 12:46 AM Any birders out there? I'm not really I just use the Merlin app. I saw this friend while driving in Riverdale MD today. Rough photo cuz it was at a distance when I was stopped at a light. I did a double take because I don't think I've ever seen one. Night Heron? It was poking its rather impressive beak into a rainwater pond.

That is indeed what that is, and it’s the only heron I am missing for MD. Might have to take a drive lol.

WxUSAF
@Paleocene nice find! I’m a fairly avid birder. Usually go out around my neighborhood each weekend at least.

Might have to take a drive lol. Look around at the intersection of Route 1 and MD 410 (east-west highway). It was at the southeast corner near Beale Circle. I was surprised it was there, because that's more than 1/2 mile from the nearest waterways, the northeast and northwest branches of the Anacostia. That may be a better place to go looking, along the parks (which are nice). But yesterday it was a swamp everywhere in that neck of the woods during the rainstorm. After looking at better pics on my computer, it was definitely a yellow-crowned night heron. The legs gave it away. I have better vision than my phone zoom, which is not good at 200 feet away.
