You can't make this stuff up. I feel bad for DC, truly. Cruelty beyond belief.

It's only December 9.

Light to almost moderate snow here (3 Miles north of Mt. Vernon)

Nice!  Enjoy it.  Might mean I can sneak in a dusting if it can continue to push north.  I'm on the border of Arlington/Alexandria in Fairlington.

Just reading the comments about any similar cutoff, I wonder if anyone there can either remember or look up what happened with a big snowstorm that hit southeast VA on Feb 29 to Mar 1 1980, I remember it was very heavy snowfalls around Norfolk area (15-20") but don't recall what happened further north. I was working in the Accu-weather office that winter on a business project and probably sitting next to JB when this storm happened (he got so excited even then). Maybe there was a similar cutoff with that storm as I don't think it snowed in State College PA.

I remember that storm painfully well. It didn't snow down here near the Mason/Dixon line either. I was 14 at the time and thought I'd be traumatized for life.

Not that it wasn’t expected, but still pretty in awe of this cutoff. Can jump in a car and drive ten fifteen minutes to see flurries, twenty minutes to see a coating, thirty minutes and see an inch of two (and within a bit more a nice snowstorm).

Officially 9.0" and going at RIC.

Is this their biggest storm since 2/15/03?  I don’t recall them ever having a big one in 09-10 it felt they mixed in every one

That is incredible for Dec. Congrats.

Yep. I think another 2-3" is still a good bet. You won't see it until the final CLI is sent around 1:30am, but it shatters the daily snowfall record of 1.8" set in 1988 and already puts December 2018 in the top 10 snowiest.

Jan 30, 2010 was a big one for Richmond. So was January 2016.

By the way, with that 8 inches... I've now exceeded ALL of last year's snowfall.

KRIC recorded 11.4" in January 2016 and 10.0" on January 30, 2010. If this event surpasses that, it will be the biggest snowstorm since January 1996 when 12.0" was recorded.

How much did they get in January 2000?

Just saw a random flurry or two.  9 days of tracking worth it!

The reason I need to see something is all this tracking

Going to be a high hour tracking per flake  seen ratio
