Sandy Obs and Banter thread - fall 2012

I'm becoming more and more worried about my back yard. The initial tree line buffer (80-100ft oaks) have only 25-50% leaves, but my big 140' oak (tree guy estimate) has at least 75% still.

I'm strangely nonchalant about my neighbors' monster beeches, maples, and oaks. Most are missing at least 50% of their leaves, and they seem to be handling the current gusts without too much swaying. Hopefully my lack of concern isn't naive and nothing much happens with them as things pick up.

I have two big, tall, bushy crape myrtles and a 30' holly tree in my front yard. I wouldn't be surprised if I lose something from at least of them. They're already struggling, especially the crape myrtles, as they still have all their leaves on them.

We lost our 3 yr old crepe myrtle in last year's storm/ wind gusts -- our only loss. Ours wasn't tied to stakes. Good luck with yours.
