Sure. But that was 76 years ago. Those clearly don't walk through the door often. A good tropical storm could bring inland winds. Outside of that, or the extreme event you mention, it probably ain't happening inland.

I'm talking about legit 60+ mph frequent gusts, not a wintertime fropa that brings strong but sub-severe gusts.

Feb 2010 was among the best, at least for NE MA, NH, swrn ME  However, and @ineedsnow would pass out from ecstasy from this, look at Nov 1950.  Truly exceptional for winds inland.  What really stood out from the sustained winds well inland.  Something like that today would rival power outages equivalent to a 1938 HU.  The only thing mitigating it would be less leaves on the trees.

Sheet rains return.

Li'l convection cells over Weymouth!  Make sense given the occlusion and instability.  HRRR shows 200-500 CAPE overnight in far ern MA and RI.  As I tried to point out to @CoastalWx earlier, offshore SSTs are near climo peak and 2-4 C above avg!   Not your typical Nor'easter SSTs! :weenie:

00z HRRR gives another widespread 1-2" for much of region w/ a max of 3" near PVD and another 3" max wrn ME.  Spot 10" seems likely in sern MA.

Yes we easily gusted 70mph in 2010 (Bedford, NH).  Maybe higher but it was difficult to tell because I was inside and iirc it was roughly 10pm-2am.   Could hear large trees falling. No power for 10 days.  But 1950 adds at least 20-30mph on top

2010 was unusual for tropospheric fold event occurring along the n arc of the cyclonic envelope. More typically that’s associated with the wrap around stinger - hence the phrase ‘sting jet’

There are a lot of examples but 2005 is a good case study of the more typical sting event

Never thought much of it but it makes sense 1938 and 1950 were actually on-par for inland winds, just the foliage difference.  MWN had similar winds iirc and for mixing and etc. subtleties, they probably weren't far off.  '38 probably had tors and microbursts that would maybe be more damaging

HFD had sustained 70 mph and CON gusted to 113 mph, at or above 1938. ALB G83 mph, NYC G94 mph, and EWR G108mph, well above 1938.  Areal coverage of the high-end winds was significantly more in the NEUS and Mid-Atlantic than 1938, so I could easily see the biggest power outages on record when happening again.

I'm curious if anyone around PVD has a rain gauge. We're getting hit by another heavy rain cell. My guess is we've got to be 6"+ at this point...maybe 7"+.

5.02 in Cranston near the Johnston Providence line. Storm was mostly quick bursts of heavy rain then light to moderate and heavy drizzle.

Heavy drizzle/light rain. Miserable. Beginning to understand why they regulate handgun sales so tightly in the UK.

glad I have a 2 car garage that's not full of junk, was able to replace the factory radio in my other, newer Accord with a new Sony head unit, remote microphone, Alpine amp, and backup camera.  took most of the weekend but man, the new radio is sweet.

rain finally picking up and accumulating, 56/55.  not as much wind as yesterday but still breezy
