Whole house fan here.  Sucks the heat right out.   Too early to run the CAC and haven't had it serviced yet

Love the whole house fan, as long as you dont run it while it is raining and can handle the pollen, it is such a game changer, especially in the Spring and Fall and those dry hot days that have evening temps dip due to low humidity...probably saved thousands in electric vs running the AC

84 summer like degrees here…with sunny skies.  Had the central air on last night to take the edge off. Temp before air put on was 74 indoors.  Got it, so I use it when I want it comfortable.

I out the central air on a bit before bit and after I woke up this AM...but no need now.

I work in Post Office Square and just went out to get lunch. Was not expecting it to be so cool, have no idea what I was thinking, or not thinking. Was expecting I would need the jacket on the walk to South Station later this afternoon, not now.

None of the houses (Early 1970's construction) here on my street had it but just about everyone has had it installed over the years as the summers get more humid.

They’ve always been humid…where have you been.  I grew up 70’s and 80’s and it was stifling and humid every summer at some point.  Some summers more than others obviously.   If you live near the water…and get a cooling breeze…that’s different. But inland it can get very hot.  Needed it(AC)last night here.

Amazing for A/C… more lackluster for heat but enough to take chill out in late spring and early fall before you want real heat.

The A/C has been amazing from our minisplits.  Dead quiet, cold rapidly, energy efficient with low electric bills.

Given how recent summers go with dews, it was worth the $10K for a couple heads here.  We just close off a couple rooms and let those bake lol.

We bought one 6-7 years back, specifically for A/C - the only usable wall space was 10 feet from the Jotul.  $3,500 installed and with the $1,000 rebate and the $500 tax reduction, the cost was quite reasonable.  Very nice to come inside on a hot day, after garden work or playing with firewood, to turn the machine on high and bask in the living room.

Seems like dewpoints 70 or better have increased over the years....I'm about 5 miles inland from the sound-we get a breeze sometimes, but it often doesn't make it here.

Yup. Trend line is up.

Generated chart

The graph shows it well… sure there were humid summers throughout the period, but only three summers since 2010 have been below the average long term dews.

Would seem to show increased dew points lately.

Yes and no. August of 2024 there wasn’t a bit of humidity after the first week until mid  November when it rained for the first time that late summer and fall.  So it’s there, then it’s not.  But once you have C/A, you’ll never go without it.

Grew up without it…and absolutely hated it…sweating our asses of when we grew up. Now I have it…never go without it again.
