Seems like the velocities are weakening on the last few scans

Ah geez nvm it was just the wood floor cleaner.  

 

Had a TOR warn up at the cabin.  Game cam showed some very heavy rain and wind but no damage as far as I can tell.

Terminal radar reveals velocities nearing 80mph. Despite was some have noted via the KLWX radar with weakening, terminal radar is showing a completely different picture.

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Southeastern Carroll County in north central Maryland... Northern Howard County in central Maryland... Southwestern Baltimore County in northern Maryland...

* Until 445 PM EDT.

* At 410 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Sykesville, or 10 miles northwest of Historic Ellicott City, moving east at 40 mph.

  THIS IS A DESTRUCTIVE STORM FOR NORTHERN HOWARD AND SOUTHWESTERN
BALTIMORE COUNTIES.

HAZARD...80 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect considerable damage to trees and power lines. Your life is at significant risk if outdoors. In addition to some trees falling into homes, wind damage is possible to roofs, sheds, open garages, and mobile homes.

* Locations impacted include... Columbia, Pikesville, Elkridge, Historic Ellicott City, Ellicott City, Catonsville, Woodlawn, Randallstown, Owings Mills, Eldersburg, Milford Mill, Lochearn, Arbutus, Mount Airy, Sykesville, Oakland, Ilchester, Garrison, Henryton, and West Friendship.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

I don't think a lot of the big velocities are making it to the surface (lack of DCAPE, and surface friction) but somewhere in there should be seeing 60 mph, which is plenty 'round here to take down limbs and old trees onto wires.

I don't understand the reasoning for the TOR... It's pretty clearly cold pool driven outflow.

Not seeing much rotation on either tor warned cell. Feel like a tor possible tag on a severe warning would have been more appropriate

Viewing angle matters.  TBWI has some big numbers.  Virginia is not as robust at the moment.

Honestly it wasn’t that bad here. I’m just north of Pikesville. Those velos def didn’t make it to the surface here, maybe a few 50 mph gusts in the gust front

The lightning strikes are impressive with this line too. Wonder if it's the boundary from the morning storms?

The Virginia part of the line has gusted out a bit, but I have a cell going up right on top of me.

Not too impressive in my part of Silver Spring.  Not much LTG/T at all.  G45KT leading edge.  Rainfall not torrential.

The leading edge of the line was just forming a shelf cloud as it passed so it had not quite matured yet, so I would have thought better or more widespread for such an impressive line.

The white "barriers" at Gringos and Mariachi's in Potomac blew over (and a chair went into the middle of Park Potomac Ave). Pretty good storm. Hoping the commute isn't too bad by the time I head east around 5:30. 

For tomorrow/Wed the models and SPC want to favor SW of us...but as we saw today - the models waffled a lot. So I think a lot of us remain in the game.
