The SPC HREF had the right idea somewhere between its mean and max. The globals and even some models like the RGEM struggle with such dynamic systems. I have often noticed that the best banding usually is just NW of where the globals and even some regionals show.

Impressive how it nailed the dry slotting over central Bergen County

That band over Nassau is ripping

Yes, I can confirm. Finally western Nassau into good banding. Finally confirmed good measurement by adding the 5pm measurement last night, cleared driveway then and had another 11 at 8am. So 16 inches here as of 8am in Garden City. Hoping we can get to 20

Thank you!  However, I don't see Montauk wind gusts in the NWS local storm reports.  Do see lots of 60-70 mph gusts across NYC and LI.  So 80-85 mph gusts on Montauk are believable.

CT LI wind gusts as of 930 AM 23 Feb 2026.png

I posted the nws wind reports and the link to it and the davis weatherlink wind chart for montauk lighthouse

This has been one of those winters where the stats say it's been a solid winter, but places to the east have consistently cashed in more on every event, which sours it just a touch. It would probably have been better not to check this forum or the radar.

Whats your ytd? Even with this dud up this way, its been a pretty solid winter

Honestly thought we had more. Hard to measure but i’d say 13-14” Measured 13.7”, 14.3”, 13.6”, 14.5”

Great winter here definitely not complaining.:snowing: Back to moderate snow.

A few miles to your east im at 18”, i got lucky with that band.

I used to run a poll asking something along the lines of would you rather get 9" and be in the jackpot, or 12" when Boston gets 20", and the results were heavily in favor of 9" and the jackpot.  I appreciated the honesty.

So basically, for my area, it would be this:

NJSnow-03Feb09.png.28e36d329f5a00dafe60ac0244149895.png

NJSnow-02Mar09.png.46eeaf26671e0c83a3d20f56510b4e54.png

I was in the jackpot for the top storm, but I got higher amounts on the bottom (but the jackpot was to the East and North, a classical Nor'easter).

wind was not a big deal here, thankfully

I like my snowstorms without wind

Surprising.  we had winds over 50 last night here.   Was nuts but blew the snow off the pine trees which was good in the end

The way it was coming down around midnight I thought for sure I’d wake up to about double what we got.

The SPC HREF been one of our best performing pieces of guidance especially in extreme events. It’s what helped to give the NWS the confidence to issue its great forecasts the last few days with this event.

Just shows how far weather forecasting has come. When I was growing up in the 1970s and 1980s many times we didn’t even know a big snowstorm was coming even a day before.

I would say the last major model miss was 1-25-00 when the 12z runs the day before were all offshore with no snow for many places that got record snow.
