There hasn't been this kind of CAD Wedge / Storm combo in this region since 2007 (Valentines Day), and even then, this dwarfs that for the depth and strength of the cold air. You'd have to find some really old timers to remember when something like this occurred.

Not at all the same kind of storm, but I remember the "Storm of the Century" in 1993 turned into a sleetfest in south Arlington, where I was living at the time. But it was March and was much "slushier." Almost impossible to walk through on the streets.

Measured about one inch of sleet since the transition. Almost 8 inches on the ground.

While Jan 1994 was the incredible freezing rain/ garbage cans frozen on the street, this also brings back Feb 1994 (I think) and Doug Hill saying at 6 PM everything looks good for a major snowstorm with freezing temperatures throughout above and then on the 11 PM news saying how do you measure sleet as the sleet was pounding.

not sure how other folks in the DMV are doing, but DC so far seems to have done a pretty good job with its "snow team".  Every street in our neighborhood has seen a plow at least once.

Not having a winter for almost ten years helps.

Not in the DMV, but my street here and in the neighborhood have not been touched.

Went outside to measure and currently there is more tiny flakes/needles falling than sleet. Can see it clearly on my navy blue jacket. Anyway 3/4" of sleet/whatever else is falling.

Yeah, I noticed when the intensity drops it turns to needles here.
