Ditto. I think I've had a moment or two of 'losing it' over the past 2/3 days. Why? Anyway, decided to enjoy whatever falls, I've set my mind to 8-10 at a max, probably 3 inches of sleet on top of maybe 6 inches of front end snow. Gonna just chill for the day, try to clear this nasty hack/cough/cold stuff I've now battled for a week plus. Wishing all as much snow and sleet as possible and as little freezing rain as possible.

This will be the first major storm that the Ms.J’s will not be here. We are all going to get something and it will be interesting to see the difference. From Cathedral Heights up through Frederick and then Carlisle. The older Ms. J said her Monday class is already asynchronous at AU. I am doing an impromptu run to Carlisle this morning to deliver a package to the younger Ms J at Dickinson. I am sure she will hear soon about Monday classes. In the past we have always all had fun in the big snows. This time we will have to rely on FaceTime. Everyone enjoy what you get and if you have kids still at home cherish it.

Where is your planned hike? I probably will be out and about those same hours taking pictures.

(the snowmean is like 19" though hahaha)

Don’t worry sometime when every single model from day 7 out shows only us getting 2+ ft with zero deviations we’ll get over a foot of snow again. My big questions for MY street are:

Will they pretreat it? (no sign so far)

Will they plow during the storm?

When will they try to make a car path?

If the answers to questions 1 and 2 are no, I expect to be entertained by MY Hill of Doom as people Think that they can drive up it.

(In that case, if they don't have four wheel drive, people should stay away or stay home.)

If there's a decent amount of snow, maybe some kids will try sledding down the steep parts.

Or maybe people will think it's too cold for that.

Not sure how many of you are CoCoRaHS reporters, but I thought this post was helpful on their main page.  Especially since the reporting time is going to be during our most pukiest snow period.

 

Winter Alert!

Here are the basics for reporting your "Gauge Catch" when it snows:

 

1. Remove the funnel and center tube and place them by your kitchen sink, and leave the large cylinder mounted outside to receive any and all precipitation that falls.
2. When it is time to measure - bring the snow-filled gauge inside and let it melt.
   *Watch this short, animated video for how to do it quickly by adding pre-measured warm water using your inner tube*
3. Once melted you can carefully pour the water into the inner tube using the funnel - making sure to subtract any amount of warm water that was added.
4. Enter this amount in same place on the data entry form where you enter your rainfall amount - called "Gauge Catch".
5. If you experience freezing rain (click here to read about the differences between frozen precipitation types and freezing rain), still follow the procedure above, but also report the thickness of the ice in your comments.  Make sure to only melt and measure the ice that freezes on the inside of the gauge.
6. Optional reporting of freezing rain can be found in the left-hand menu of your data entry page or click here to access more information including a link to enter an ice accretion impact report. Here, the training guide goes over how to report the thickness of the ice, but if you only have impacts to report, and photos, you can use the links or QR code to submit a report from your smartphone.

Even though NWS counts sleet as snow for purposes of total accumulations, is there a different WSW criteria for sleet vs. snow?  Hard to imagine three inches of pure sleet would merit a WWA lol

It is refreshing over in the non banter thread this year to not have to sift thru psu essays on the elephant in the room or if it will ever snow again. Rather, we get to read his debbing about warm tongues at 700-800mb, dry slots, and fast moving lows too close to the coast.

I'll be doing Bacon Ridge in Crownsville. I plan to sleet to about 11pm. Get up and be at the trail head at midnight. My plan is to head about 4 miles in. I'll being taking pictures of the old cemetery where the trail crosses the old Crownsville Mental institution property. From Hawkins Road to there is a good 4 miles. That's 8 miles round trip. It should be epic with heavy snow.
