Mike Tomlin is stepping down.  Wow.

Not a huge fan of the choice though I get it. He's clearly a fantastic coach that has turned a 4-13 roster into a 9-8 team for the past 4 years... but the team needs a good tank. Kinda hope the Giants scoop him right up.

Chargers blew that game, should have been 14-3 early. I thought the Patriots looked beatable…Houston (if they win) will be a tough matchup. I still think the winner of the DEN/BUF game are favorites to reach the SB for the AFC.

Not sure why the Harbaugh's love Roman, but watching that game reminded me of the Raven's playoff appearances with Roman as OC. Jim must have had enough because Roman just got fired today. Maybe Herbert refused to play another season with him.

He wants nothing to do with a team that is old, has no QB for the future, and is overall devoid of talent. Multiple crappy seasons ahead. He bailed and will either take a year off or land a job in a spot like Atlanta- loaded with young talent and might have a QB for the future in Penix- although he is injury prone.

44 years ago (Jan 13, 1982), it was snowing in DC, and the late WUSA Chief Meteorologist Gordon Barnes was giving a live update on WTOP radio.  It was the way to get the latest weather and school closings before the internet.  I was 14 at the time, and knew something horrible had just happened when they interrupted him to announce two tragedies: a plane struck the 14th street bridge and there were many killed along with survivors bring pulled out of the icy Potomac, and at the same time, there was a subway derailment that killed and trapped people underground near the Smithsonian.  It was an evening I will never forget.  About 7 inches fell in DC.

See ya there!  Going up to the house Friday - Monday.

Good call, it’ll give you a snow fix ahead of our epic SWFE ;)

The 24h period between noon tomorrow and noon Thurs looks like its going to be wild... 3k Nam has 2m temps going from 41 to 10. I'm expecting 3-4" on the ground and still coming down by the time I get up there and really hoping GFS is right. 18z Kuchera showed about a foot :snowing:

Let’s gooooo Caaaaps!! That was the best 3rd period of hockey they played all year. Ethan Frank is a beast! Awesome W in OT!

PS—first two period I was literally booing my tv. lol. They better fix some stuff.

Caps do this shit all the time - these mid-season periods where they look like garbage for a bunch of games in a row.

Good summary for you by LWX - snipped the portion about Friday into Saturday:

KEY MESSAGE 3...A low pressure system may bring snow to the
Allegheny Mountains Friday through Saturday night.

One, possibly two low pressure centers will meander through the
Great Lakes Friday into Saturday as a series of shortwave troughs
result in amplifying long wave troughing into the eastern US. There
may be some light snow showers along the Allegheny Mountains on
Friday, but the higher chances will arrive Friday night through
Saturday night as the main trough approaches. Temperatures may
attempt to rise above freezing Saturday in some of the valleys
before the cold front pushes through, but profiles will be cold
enough for all snow for most locations along and west of the
Allegheny Front. Accumulations resulting in travel disruptions are
possible. To the east of the Alleghenies, there are mixed signals
whether any precipitation falls, but it will be related to the
push of warm advection Saturday morning and/or the cold frontal
passage Saturday afternoon/evening. Some snow or a mix could
occur depending on the timing of any precipitation, but at the
moment, impacts appear limited at the lower elevations. For
temperatures, Saturday is expected to be the warmest day of the
weekend before the cold front pushes through.

@SnowenOutThere @dailylurker moving the rain hike discussion to banter. I second this idea. We stayed somewhere near Luray in late September 2022 on a weekend that was a total washout. Took the kids out for a rain hike anyway. Can't remember where exactly. It was fantastic, stumbled across small waterfalls that clearly only exist during rainstorms. Felt like we were in the prehistoric cloud forest!

Thanks. I didn't want to clog the main thread but didn't know how to move it lol. I appreciate the great idea. I never really considered a rain hike up there. I do rain hikes a lot at my local spot (Bacon Ridge). It's so peaceful during a spring rain hike.

Nats are moving away from MASN and having their own "Nationals.TV" - you can stream it via the MLB At Bat app, and it says they are making deals with cable providers.  NO BLACKOUTS!!

Thank the lord, now the O's can have MASN all to themselves and not have 80% of their games moved to MASN 2. LFG.

yep - better for everyone.  I have youtube TV which doesn't have a deal with MASN, and then the games had been blacked out on MLB.TV.  So I couldn't watch any games unless they were national broadcasts (which wasn't often the last few years lol).

I'm definitely thinking about it... I've still got three years until college, though, so I'll see where life takes me and reassess throughout the next 36 months

No judgement, but wondering how are you able to post so often during school? Are you on a phone or laptop?

It's a fair question. I'm often on my school-provided laptop, so when I finish my work I usually pop in here.

I’m surprised it’s not a site your jurisdiction automatically blocks. As a recently retired math teacher, I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but if I needed assistance helping other students, I might ask for your support. :)

Retired already? I’m getting old.
