Pretty incredible run for my cooperative site (RSTM2). Haven't been above freezing since the evening of the 24th, when we had a cheap early morning high of 41° before falling off a cliff for a 5° low. Since then, we've been below 30° for a week, with every low temperature at or below 15°

I gotta get all the data but I think this breaks the record from 1977 for 7 day cold streak

Low of 10 literally every morning the last 3, however the high has not been able to break 23° any of those days either. Crazy run of winter here in the lowlands. The ice/snow piles have not budged once here next to the South River, which btw is completely frozen over.

Even with the sleet bomb, it definitely looks like snow on the ground.  Pretty incredible stretch of cold here...I don't recall anything like it since '94.  If we can get a couple snowtoppers with the Wednesday thing and the potential clipper, then it changes the game a bit.

This has been an awesome week. I've hiked 36.5 miles this week. Every step with micro spikes on. Today I checked out Wye Island and Terrapin State Park. Check out the bay.

Still sucks driving around with all the snow or should I say Ice piles. You could build and igloo on lake elkhorn.

When I went to take the trash out, I usually walk down a small hill to the bin behind the house. This time I slid down the hill on my feet. What a trip!

Picked up my wife and younger daughter at DCA earlier - the Potomac is completely frozen over.

16F there at 7pm, warmer here in Tenleytown (19F).  Seems likely they'll get into the single digits tonight

I have been looking at warm weather trips the past couple of days. We want to put in some new flooring in our lower level but with this cold we are not exactly wanting to rip up carpet.

it's cool that the entire forum has this glacier and the deep cold is keeping it as is.  No one got the shaft.  Good for forum morale imo.

The southwest has done extremely well in that department this winter.  I was tempted to travel, but prices are bad and I was already out there for 3 weeks recently.

Sheesh.  Yea, the Caribbean is like that.  Very little difference between high and low temps, and when it rains it's like a heavy mist.

Just missed having a supreme couple of winter weeks with this storm just to my south .. As is the last 10 days have been epic - Looking at these huge snow/sleet piles - If you just sobered up from a week long alcoholic binge you would think a 2 foot+ blizzard slammed the area... It may not have been 96 or 2016 but combined with the temps this glacier storm ranks as a top 10 for myself...

Hey neighbor! Funny how out of the three years I'll have been in Columbia, lake Elkhorn has been walkable twice. Late January last year was solid enough to cross, though not as thick as it'll be this year of course.

Highest temp 61, lowest 5.

Third straight January with above normal snowfall.

My numbers for the month of January 2026

Averaged high was 39.8 degrees vs a normal of 42.0 degrees, -2.2 degrees below average. The warmest temp was 60.5 degrees on the 12th. Averaged low was 19.4 degrees vs a normal of 22.4 degrees, -3.0 degrees below average. The coldest temp recoded was 1.8 degrees on the 27th and 28th. Overall averaged temp was 29.6 degrees vs a normal of 32.2 degrees, -2.6 degrees below average. Total precip for the month was 2.84 inches vs a normal of 2.94 inches, a -0.10 inches below average. The wettest day was the 25th with 1.05 inches. There were 7 days with measurable, 7 days with a 'T' and 17 dry days. Total snowfall for the month was 7.4 inches vs a normal of 5.8 inches, a +1.6 inches above average. The snowiest day was the 25th with 4.5 inches falling. There were 3 days with measurable, 9 days with a 'T' and 19 snowless days. There were 7 days with SOTG at 7 am. Highest wind recorded was 42 mph on the 12th. There were 21 days with winds above 25 mph. Two new records for the month a new 'cool max' on the 27th and a new snowfall record on the 25th. Overall a cold and very windy month with close to average precip and snow. A strange feature of the month was the number of days with either a warmer 'night' than day or a colder 'day' than night, in total that happened 14 times.
