Right at 12:30 pm I have 21.1/3.5 under VERY sunny skies, amazing how bright/reflective sun is off this stuff. W wind 11 gusting 28 so still a WC of 9 to 3 degrees. Forecast is 24, so I may run by that too before the day is over. OK with me, I still have a couple spots to 'clean up' where I shoveled yesterday.

Any records in jeopardy at the 3 airports during this upcoming week? I was trying to find stats for consecutive hours below freezing and I saw Feb 2015 at BWI with about 140 hours below. Not sure it was a record though.

Temp is 12 and our next round of snow has begun. Nice to hopefully add a few more inches to our tally. Wind chill this morning was as low as -28 so I am absolutely loving this deep winter. Now, if we can pull that weekend storm west, that would put the exclamation point on this beautiful stretch of winter.

Jiminy Christmas!! Just had a 5 minute 'gust' roll thru, 35-41 mph from WNW the entire 5 minutes. Where did that come from?!?!  At 23.8/10 that made the wind chill 5 to 4 degrees. There is another starting... 32, 34 mph. Sheesh.

I'm not super familiar with the land surface part of modeling but I really wonder if the reason models have busted on min temps so far is that they had the surface progged as snowpack when it's really a sheet of ice at this point. It's easy to get very low skin temps with snow b/c of insulation, but harder with ice because of heat conduction from below

the outputs of temps near 0 in the metros are going to be laughably wrong.

11/27/25 is when this started and here are some stats for BWI  11/27 to 1/27.  
of those 60 days 43 have been below average including 21 consecutive 11/27 to 12/17.  The average temp is -3.1 for time frame. There have been 12 double digit negative average daily and just 4 double digit positive .

yeah this is definitely a pretty impressive cold stretch.

temp basically not dropping - 23/24 at DCA, 21.7F here.  Weak af.

Yeah it’s odd. I’ve been consistently around 5 degrees warmer than any model has shown. Just for example tonight, the 0z NAM, GFS, and 18z Euro all had my area at 14 degrees at 1 AM tonight. It’s currently 20 and hasn’t dropped in at least an hour. 
 

I just find it odd that it seems like all the models across the board are in agreement on temps and are all wrong.

I've been busting 5-7 degrees above forecast day and night. Yesterday my forecast high was 26. By 3 I almost went above freezing and drip drip. This morning and yesterday morning busted by almost 10 degrees lol. Hopefully with a forecast of 22 today I'll probably stay below freezing. We'll see. Last January was the same way.
