This is by far the best forum. Philly and NY don’t have the passion, the expertise, the knowledge, and the personalities that the mid Atlantic forum does. This group obsesses over every storm. Love it.

Philly doesn’t have the passion, half of the  NYC forum is arguing, and neither have the knowledgeable posters. NE has them but if it isn’t snowing in Boston 90% don’t even bother, and the SE is just inactive. We have fostered a supportive community and we live and die together.

So far it is still all sleet as a lull sets up over NYC proper. It’s reaching into unmitigated disaster territory if it doesn’t flip back soon.

If you go back and look, the Nam shifted the heavy accumulations north at 12z yesterday if I recall, and has been furthest North with the accumulating snow area. As bad as the Nam can be, it always sniffs out the mid level warmth.

there have been worse busts - I remember we were forecast to get 24-36", Cantore set up shop, etc - and we got maybe 10" while eastern LI got like 3 feet.

Ok. He’s about 45 minutes north. Could be big difference between city and suburbs. Meanwhile, 31 and drizzle here.

lol yeah - that's not "just north of NYC".  Just north of NYC is like just past Yonkers or something.

I agree. Mid Atlantic and New England are the top 2 in my opinion.

And just like that - a strong wind and we're up to 50F.  No more ice.  In fact I've opened the windows tonight to cool the cabin off and get some humidity in here.

Incredible temp difference on the Allegheny Front this evening. Mesonet has 50° at Bittinger, but 31° in Frostburg.

Visiting Lititz, PA for the weekend where it’s 26/26.

Started this afternoon with freezing rain, went over to a mix with sleet and freezing rain now.

Roads are a complete mess around town.

Side note: cute town all done up with Christmas lights everywhere. Looks great with the icy coating.

Im in kutztown at the moment. It is gnarly out there. High of 30 tomorrow so it should be a glacier through Sunday afternoon.

Storm looks to be over and the grand total is possibly an optimistic 1-2 inches thanks to a flip back to snow for a bit… I would not envy the email addresses of any meteorologist in NYC right now

That’s a big dry slot. Let’s see if precip from Scranton can make it to nyc

Wait, over? Thought it would still be snowing overnight up there?

I live in Lititz. Glad you like the town. DM me if you need advice on anything while you’re here!

Fascinating late evening radar on Long Island, with synoptic snow moving west-northwest to east-southeast, while ocean-effect snow streams from south to north across Long Island.

They seem to be busting so far. Lots of sleet unexpectedly early

Definitely a warmer layer models missed around New York. Buddy of mine who lives in Rockland county just north of New York was reporting 24 degrees and sleet for a while. Back to snow now.

18 & heavy snow in the elevations of Orange County!

Made it to Niagra Falls. Left MD at 11:30am when the pings started. Dude. It got insane driving through freezing rain at 23F! Then sleet at 18F. Hats off to PA and NY road crews. Roads were covered with an inch of sleet and freezing rain but unbelievably passable. Temps got to 30F at Buffalo then dropped to 27F at Niagra Falls. Had a snow squall come through after we at dinner.

Based on the radar i don’t think its over. But i think that dry slot robbed nyc of max potential with this storm

Doug Kammerer said Bethesda / Chevy Chase had some sleet - wondering if upper NW also got into that.  We are in Richmond where it was cold but mostly dry (a few sprinkles but that's it).
