i see. Yes, in the 90s. 93-94 and 95-96 were notably good winters, great in fact. 94-95 was about as bad as you can get. One big  storm that winter and that was it.

One storm of about a foot that year and that was all she wrote, maybe there were some small 1-2 inchers, but I remember brown ground most of that winter.

Makes sense. As a little kid in the ‘70’s we seemed to get quite a few snow days (Blizzard of ‘78 being the most noteworthy) In the 80’s in high school it seemed I NEVER got snow days

60s too had a lot of snow days, also on frigid days the boiler at school broke down and they sent us home in the morning.

We had about 12” in the 2/4/95 storm and then I think the next biggest storm all winter was maybe 2” or 3”. It was close to being historically awful if it weren’t for that one Storm.

Shredded is a continued theme of the season. Comes with the fast flow though I guess.

Been fast flow and shredded systems for years now. Guess it's make up for all those years of KUs

Yeah i was looking at this recently because im getting ready to work on the 94-95 season. NYC got 10.8" from that storm and 11.6" all winter total. If it werent for that storm they would have had 0.8" on the winter, which would have made it, by far the worst season in history. Along with a lot of other climo sites, it would have been the worst winter ever including ORH.

That was just a wild winter, such a crazy +AO/NAO fairly far removed from the solar max and also in a weak to moderate El Nino.

Actually has a rare true flash freeze event during a rain to snowstorm on that solution. Doubt it verifies but every once in a while it happens.

God I still remember spending the entire winter of ‘94-‘95 staring out the window of my fifth grade classroom forlornly at the grey/brown landscape. Painful. But the next year more than made up for it.

fwiw GEPS was a big improvement from 00Z. One of the best runs yet, its actually pretty solid for most of SNE

Does it mean several inches? Not sure, how much merit this will have with what we've been seeing with other models
