I reported you to Governor Healey for your excessive use of ground pesticides.
dendrite
HRRR and 3k don't fire up the line tomorrow until it's just barely east of here. I may start breeding lantern flies and dumping them off at members' homes if I don't get some decent rain soon.

For me, it was the oct 2021 blown down..when half the trees in our neighborhood were knocked down and we had no power for a week. Besides that January storm it’s been 60s/70s in February, seemingly never ending spring rain storms and days of brutal heat and dryness well into the fall. Let’s see if the fun continues going forward!

I have three nests I have to kill. My go to strategy has always been to wait until just after sunset and put a full can of Raid (or whatever wasp and hornet spray I have on hand) down the hole. Works every time.

dendrite
Stomping is a waste of time and who wants bug guts all over your shoes? They will wreck havoc for a couple of years and then calm down whether you stomp them or not. There’s so many invasive plants, insects, and diseases that it’s not worth fighting it anymore. It’s a global habitat now because of humans. All of the continents would come back together in another 250M years anyway. One good thing about them is they love the invasive Tree of Heaven. So they can wipe that out while other animals learn to eat the lantern flies. 1

dendrite
43 minutes ago, Baroclinic Zone said: Do you have the same opinion of the Asian long-horned beetle? I prefer native species and would rather not have any invasives here. Some of them you can catch early and stop the spread. Others catch on like wildfire and it quickly reaches a point where there’s no stopping them anymore. ALB isn’t in NH yet, but they probably will be eventually and yeah, I will feel the same way. Unless there’s some kind of legit plan to reduce their population (like sterilized males) then I don’t think there’s a lot you can do. The habitat around them has to evolve and adapt to them. It’s like trying to stop a field of japanese knotweed. You could throw a nuke on it and it would still try to resprout.
