Downright brutal out there. Worse than anything this winter.

It’s unbelievable. Why can we never seem to get these storms to line up like this in the middle of the winter and instead we get them in the ass end of May? It’s friggin dumping out there right now.

What the hell is an oak dog? I thought oaks just had leaves?

Catkins that hold the male pollen.  Some of them are 4-5".  Looks like Kev will be fighting the acorn battle in 2026 (red oak acorns take 2 years to mature).

Just cloudy here, maybe get wet by 9-10 this evening.

Thank you for your professional and mature explanation.

I have various oaks. Some species certainly worse than others. I should post pics here and see what you can identify.

Went up to 3,300ft and hit snowflakes around 3,000ft.  No accumulation but legit snowing at 3,200ft+.

Summit cam shows accumulation at 4,000ft.  I wasn’t in a position to get over there and man, that was some brutal weather conditions to be outside in for 2 hours.

Walking through wind driven rain 1500-3000ft to see some flakes, ha.  Was thoroughly cold and wet when I hit the car again.

I was on a different part of the mountain… would’ve been out there for hours working over to 4kft.

I know, I failed.  We try again tomorrow.  Damn did a hot shower feel good though.

Ask me how many trees I cut today. The answer would be none. Nasty...

42° with windswept showers here right now.

Debating whether I should fire up the woodstove or not.

Have had ours going-- fueled by pieces of a big dead oak, casualty of the caterpillar catastrophe of a few years ago-- that finally gave up the ghost with a huge splintering crash into our backyard a day or so after the violent downburst took out big chunks of several of our prized maples. As for the big oak, at least it came down well seasoned and ready to burn.
